  • Anyone use(d) Co-cut software ?

Posted by Nigel Fraser on January 5, 2005 at 6:28 pm

I’ve just upgraded to XP and discovered that I’m having problems with my trusty little plotter driver program signscript not being totally compatable. I don’t want to start using a “proper” sign making package because I’ve had 13years practice on Corel !
So I have been looking round for an alternative simple to learn program and wondered if anyone on the site had any experience of Co-cut or any other similar products ?? http://www.cocut.com/index.dml?unten=pr … m&von=html

    Thanks in advance,

    Nigel

not sure about that particular problem,

but if you’re thinking about moving to a dedicated program (Lets hope you don’t need to) you could always try signlab out, it’s pretty much derived of Corel,(the latest version anyway) from the Layout etc, plus you can import/export from pretty much any sign program in and out of Corel

I have used cocut as a plugin with freehand and it works fine under XP. Its very basic but does the job. Have a look at this software it might be a better bet.

Thanks Ian, thats good to know – I only want a simple driver really with some simple tools like scale, mirror, etc. Signscript which I was using was perfect for me really but it would be nice to cut straight from Corel if it’s reliable and easy to use.
Chris, I run a Mutoh Sc1300 as my main machine and the little Gerber enVision 375 as a backup and for the edge printer. Obviously I run the Gerber machines from Omega software provided though so it’s just the Mutoh I have the problem with. What is the driver/program you use and does it work with XP and other makes of plotter ??

    cheers,

To cut directly out of corel you need a Paralell printer capable cutter.. (roland)

Other wise theres not much hope..

Cocut sounds like its a perfect match for your needs. You may not need the cocut pro vresion. I sue cocut regulalry and found it a perfect match with corel. With this combo I can do just about anything I need to do for cutting vinyl..

I started usign cocut pro 9 with corel 9, I like it so much i got the cocut pro 12 when i bought corel draw 12. ITs a true pulgin program. Not a bridge. And if you get the demo you will see just how sipmple yet effective this proggy is..

do all work in corell press shortcut

takes file straight into co cut software

    loads more tools there

    easy peasy

very simple to work with and fast,
more than adequate for the majority of vinyl cutting

I used, note the d on the end, Corel and CoCut pro but know use signlab 7, not sure the change was worth the money as CoCut pro was very good, still think the weed lines are better in cocut, you just have to press v or h to get extra weed lines.

Some of the downsides were that the weld options in cocut could get a bit funny, used to end up with multipul copies of entities on top of each other, very weard when it came to cutting. the pro version can use USB as well.
