i personally like this generation of machines but there are certain things to consider.

if i am right then the ecojet premier is the cmyk rb printer. i may be wrong.

    1) cost to speed ratio. these are (i believe) the earlier machines eg cj500/fj52 conversions. good machines but not known for there output speed. maybe not a big concern at the minute but when the shop down the road can produce the same prints at a better quality in half the time then it may become an issue.

    2) profiling. very imortant to all printers. if i am right again (ahem) then this will be running from easysign. not a bad thing in itself but you will have to rely on victory supplying the profiles to you unless you wish to spend hundreds of pounds on a densitometer and then having to learn the wonderful world of colour.. ask them how many medias they have profiled for this machine and how much custom ones would be.

    3) Support. You need to have good backup on this type of printer. i dont think that you will get that from the above company. these machines do go wrong, like any. things like heads, pumps, wiper blades and dampers will need changing at what could be described as regular intervals (possibly upto 10 pumps, 3 sets of heads, 2 sets of dampers and wiper blades can last as little as a few days depending on the ink used).

    4) training. they will probably train you how to change the parts yourself.
great you may say, but when something goes wrong no matter what it is, i bet they say its your fault.

    5) do you want to spend thousands of pounds on equipment from a company that has just lost its supplier of printers (tiara). although nothing to do with the ecojet.

    6) if this is a versacamm conversion and not a fj52 or cj500 conversion, then the machine will probably be a grey import. victory will be solely responsible for its upkeep. they will have to honour the warranty. will they be here next year?

    hope this helps.

I’ve got one, and get on with it quite well, but virtually all the hard work has been done by me, so I wouldn’t recommend it to any one, unless you are prepared to lose your hair over it (stress levels have been very, very high over the past 3 years)….!
