Our carpark is about 4" deep in water now and the cut across the road which has no more than about 8" of water is now topping its banks which makes it about 8 feet deep and ready to wash across the road.

    Best get me waterwings out

Seeing the news tonight… you guys have had some serious downpours. They say that the bad weather is heading for Scotland and Ireland Marcella, so you may get that bad weather yet.

We have not had any significant rains for over a month 🙁

    It was very very bad,

I got caught in Gloucester in a tranny van with a work mate, could not get back to S Wales.

We ploughed through a river in the road, the water came up to the bonnet and our wake caused fire responce car (who thought it would be ok to overtake us!) to lift off the road and float side ways into us.

We tried every route but the flooding had vans flooded to the windows (a good 5-6 foot in parts), we ended up in Tewksbury centre of after 7-8 hours of tiring hard driving to get caught in the worst we saw – the centre is like a island and it stranded us.

We dont get flooding where I live and to see what it really can do is shocking, trees, walls cars smashed and under water

We parked up at 12 am for a kip in the van to be woken up at about 3am ish by the sound of sea-king’s. A car was washed in to the flood and at 6 or so they stopped, I didn’t see this (I parked out the way of it) but an on looker said the car just vanished under the water, the same coppers then had to rescue a camp site as the water getting very high(looked a bit rough for the boats)

We got a break as the A38/M50 junction had dropped a few inches enough to plough the van up the bank and we joined the M5.

Over 18 hours later we got back, a bit of damage to the van.

But people were in good spirits and the local abbey started doing tea and coffee for people.

Guess I had a lucky escape as I was moving house in North Wales. I left Aldershot at 10am on Friday and headed straight for the M4 (via Bracknell), not too many problems however the rain was coming down hard. Once on the M4 there was a drastic slow down due to the combination of rain and spray. The worst bit was passing Reading as the outside lane was just starting to fill with water making driving impossible. I then had a clear run to Swindon (still raining very hard). Only got bad when I pulled off the M5 on a brief delivery to Ashchurch at 12ish where the road was slightly flooded, Tewkesbury amazingly was still dry!!!. Back on the M5 I set off north towards Birmingham when the information signs flashed up "Ques Ahead". I dived off at J7 and skirted round Worcester and through many flooded roundabouts. From there on it was easy driving, couple of raging torrents across the road but nothing impassable. A journey I normally do in 5 1/2 hours took 7 so not too bad giving the weather conditions and I was driving a laden transit!!!

On the trip back down on Sunday I had a nice view from the top of Birdlip back over Gloucestershire………..LOTS of water EVERYWHERE!!!

First here it was the water trying to get to the Thames now everyone is praying the Thames holds all it’s got for the next 36 Hrs we are on high alert.

This was partially flooded at 2pm Friday – then clear at 5pm – then by midnight – the river made it’s own route to the Thames 😕

We are in Cheltenham, lost water about 2 hours ago, people in Gloucester and Tewkesbury lost their supply earlier today, and several thousand homes are without electricity.

No news on any bowsers in Cheltenham as yet although Severn Trent are saying their are 600 in the County! Water from the boswers will be limited to 2 litres per person!

………….. and you probably still have a hosepipe ban!!!!!!!!! 😉

In all seriousness though, I really hope any of you affected by the floods are all OK and that your homes are safe and businesses too. 🙁

Hey Friends, been watching the news here, I recognize a few towns… hope you all keep safe.

Amazing you guys are having this weather in your summer. Thats the weather we usually have here, not for a few years now though. We have no water at all. Could do with a flood. Nothing but blue skys for weeks on end now.

Thinking of you all, not much help I know, but please take care.

Likewise, if we can do anything to help anyone, we would be pleased to do it.

We sit on top of our limestone hill, at four hundred feet above sea level, so are pretty much immune to flooding ourselves.

We had bowsers delivered in the streets at 2am this morning (one just outside my house), even got one on the Industrial Estate, so we’re lucky really (it could be a lot worse for us!).

And me too, happy to help anyone out that needs it, just ask!

Although we have had LOTS of rain the Broads Authority’s drainage works over the last few years seem to be doing the trick. Rivers are high but not flooding-as yet.

One question…. What do you mean by ‘bowser’? I’m not sure I understand. A Bowser here is a pump at a service station 😕 😳

I’m thinking your bowser my be a water pump?

  • Harry Cleary

think a bowser is a mobile tank for water or any liquidShane, it has been used here to describe a ‘drunk’ …a ‘bowsie’, which is the same thing until he/she falls over… 😀 😀 😀

Shane, a bowser is a tank on wheels. A trailer for transporting liquids.
