  • Anyone creating contour paths in Illustrator for Flexi?

    Hi everyone,

I’m having real problems with flexisign pro and contour cutting. The contour cutting feature in flexi doesn’t give me the cut lines that I want. Image below gives an idea of the cut line I am after for my simple test print…

I’ve found some info on other forums from google searches, with what I believe should be:

    • create new swatch named ‘CutContour’, making sure its a spot colour
    • put the contour path on its own layer, unlocked and above the print layer
    • add CutContour to the Custom Colur Mapping

When I send the contour job to the cutter it doesn’t respond at all, which may be down to the cutter being set up on usb and not serial (its a Liyu which are currently being imported by Andy at Mistatees).

Is this the method others use for using custom contour paths from Illustrator? I am looking to start cutting motocross graphics, which will require custom contour paths.

Any help would be really much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Richard

Hi Richard you may get a better response if you say hello first in the hello forum,
I dont use flexi, but cant see why you cant do it in flexi,
are you sending the job direct from illy to the cutter or through flexi?

cutPath usually needs to be a hairline .25 from illy is the usuall setting for other rips.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply. My bad aswell, I’ll go to the Hello post tonight 😳

I do all my artwork in Illustrator and then rip and print in flexi. Hoping to contour cut too…if I get this running right lol.

The command ‘cutPath’ as apposed to ‘CutContour’ doesn’t open up my contour options in the rip and print output, so I’m assuming flexi doesn’t understand that command. It does open the contour options when I swatch the path as ‘CutContour’ though.

The sample image is pretty easy, so I suppose that probably can be done using flexi’s in-house contour settings. The contour cutting I plan to be doing in the future is more complex than this though, which will definately require pre-designed contour paths.

    Regards,

    Rich

This might give a better idea of what I mean by more complex contour lines.

The blue lines represent the cut lines needed to make a set of mx graphics, I can’t see how you would prepare these lines with flexi’s built in contour editor.

    Thanks all,

    Rich
