  • Anyone a fastway courier customer, looking for reviews!

Posted by Andrew Blackett on March 6, 2009 at 6:00 pm

    Evening all,

Our local fastway franchisee has suggested he can beat the prices we are currently paying fedex for our deliveries.

Are any of you fastway customers? Anyone got any strong feelings for or against?

    Thanks in advance
    Andy

    We use Fastway.

The odd parcel has gone astray, but probably less than most of the other carriers. Certainly it doesn’t happen often enough for me to want to do anything about it.

Pricing is good, from memory it’s between £2.95 and £8.95, depending on destination. Charge it out at a standard £12.50 or £14.00 and it is a nice little profit centre in itself.

I think the service you receive is down to the individual franchisee covering your area. We are happy enough with ours.

I would certainly recommend giving them a try.

we use them, but like many franchises. individual bad eggs ruin it for the others. we had a guy when we first started using fastway, he was excellent and very officiant. helped sort the parcels and things with the girls. didnt mind hanging around, {within reason} etc etc he went to another firm saying fastways heads were all over the place when the depot manager moved on and more work was coming in… we soon found that to be true.
without going into it all i tried getting a parcel to a uksb member recently. they never turned up. then they were 4hours late turning up, when they eventually arrived the parcel was too big for their van! they said another van is on its road… the next van didnt turn up. and so on… in end, about 5 days later it got sorted… absolute nightmare. anyway… not knocking them completely as i had a great service till the manager moved on. and to think these guys are self employed businessmen in each of those vans. 🙄

Just make sure you dont use parcel force, I waited at my door on a friday couple of weeks ago for a delivery to come that had to be installed that night and they did not show up, so I called and was told the driver tried to deliver 10min ago. I tried to get the local manager to call me back but never returned my calls. I kept being told that the driver tried to deliver so asked them to check the tracker but they would not.

I think parcel force are too big for customer service.

I use Fastway and Fedex, only use Fedex to deliver where Fastway don’t as they do not cover the whole of the UK only certain postcodes.

Now on the forth driver so I guess the job must be tough or underpaid, generally good service, only problem that I had was once they where unable to deliver so the package just got taken back to the depot, they leave a card and wait for you to call they do not attemp another delivery until they hear from you.

Price wise seem the best out there so they get my vote.

    Regards

    Russell.

    Russel,
A guy down the road from me used to work for them. He invested heavily for the "Franchise" and found it a bad investment. He did get his money back though. Sorry to go off thread.

i’ve used them but only for sending / picking up beach fishing rods, they’re about the only people who’ll take anything over 5ft long, i think they’ll take up to 8ft, prob more if it’ll fit in the van!

    no problems to date.

Russell, I thought that they delivered everywhere, but used Business Post for final delivery in areas where they don’t yet have representation. I understood that was the reason for the pricing differential, it’s from memory so might not be exact, but something like:-

£2.95 within your own franchise area. Dead useful for local stuff because it’s cheaper than delivering it ourselves.

£3.95 for anywhere that Fastway have an existing franchisee.

£8.95 for everywhere else. The extra fiver is Business Posts bit on top.

They give us a list of postcodes so that we can put the correct priced ticket on each parcel, which occassionaly gets updated and new £3.95s added as they take on new franchisees.

Hugh, we’ve had them take stuff longer than eight feet. Once or twice they’ve rung the delivery end to see what van he’s got and, if it will fit and he agrees, then they’ve taken it. As I said in my previous post, a lot depends on the individual franchisee as to whether or not they will put in that extra effort.

Thanks lads, all great feedback. The guy in our franchise area is great, him and his dad run it and seem like the genuinely want the business and has even promised any problems and he’ll sort them personally (sounds good but we shall see)

I’m under the impression they now cover the whole of the UK and wales is now the same rate as the rest. They came in to see us about 2 years ago and wales used to be twice as much which made it ridiculously expensive for us (we have a client in wales who takes a daily delivery) Oh and their European deliveries are far far cheaper than fedex and the other main ones too!

He’s coming back on Tuesday with the quote and he’s taken a copy of a fedex invoice to show what we could save.

From all your reviews I think we’ll give it a go!

    Thanks again
    Andy

I refuse to use them here. Much the same story as Rob.

We are the last street on the map for the Franchise of our area. He never comes at the same time, and if he’s driving past earlier than we open, he leaves it to the next day.

The operation in the UK sounds like the New Zealand Fastways. They use the post too if they can’t get a delivery to an area I believe..

They are well represented here in Oz tho, but use private smaller local couriers if they are not represented in a delivery area..

We use them, had one Parcel lost, but they proved it was delivered and signed for so I had to take it up with the recieving company.

They do same day local deliveries for £2.95 which cant be beat in my eyes.

    Prices are £2.95, £4.97, £7.95

I also have used them, my only real gripe is that you have to buy a book of 20 tickets, (all the same price) which for myself is a no-no, as an occasional sender. I did club together with a local chap in the same situation, I still have about 7 tickets left, and the last I heard they were going under, but maybe that was our local franchisee. I certainly haven’t seen any vans recently.
Having said all that, the service, when I used it was very good.

We use them here. Prices depend on the size of book you buy. When we first started using them about 3 years ago a book of 20 seemed to last ages but on some things we find it easier to use Fastway than go to the trouble of going to the Post Office to send smaller and lighter products. I can call up to 4 o’clock in the afternoon for a same day collection but that is because of where we are located.

They do cover all the UK but the areas where they don’t have franchisees they sub these deliveries out.

We have never had an issue with anything and are 100% happy with the service we get.

I would and have recommend them to anyone, having said that, as had been said before they are only as good as the local operative.

    Cheers

    Gary
