    Hi all,
Hoping for a little bit of advice.
We currently work as Sign making NVQ tutors/assessors in Hull, and have around 45 apprentices in various Hull sign companies.
The college is looking to possibly add a laser cutter/engraver, which can be used during day release and also by pre school leavers who visit on taster days. CNC routers have also been mentioned but most of the placement providers have these already whilst not many have the lasers.
Realistically it would not be getting hammered 24/7, but we would want something reliable and also flexible enough to machine various materials but not have to spend a fortune.
We currently have Signlab 5/6 & 7 and would prefer to have a machine compatible with it. My prior work involved preparing the jobs in Signlab and exporting direct the CNC software, nice and easy.
Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.
I am sure Rodney could give us some valuable input.

    Regards

    Dale/Mike

    hi dale/mike

we are in scarborough and have been looking for laser marking
machines etc, they all seem to be very expensive to get into,
we saw a lot of them at the education show at birmingham last year
i will try to post you any contacts we got,
i thought a machine that could handle long objects something with a front and rear door rather than a small box type thing might have more milage in it
i have a contact in china direct that make them,
the only thing is of course getting fingers round their throats if things go wrong
let me know what you find and i will keep in touch

    Hiya
I have made a ton of posts on various laser forums as what to look for in a laser etc. We run GCC explorers which are VERY nice machines and are reliable and can take a pounding and are decently priced , platforms made in china , sources from the USA.
    Look at
    http://www.sawmillcreek.org
in the laser forum , look for all my posts or go thru the forum archives
    look as well in
    http://www.nbm.com/index.php?page=aemsg … iscussions
    for my posts etc.
These are not heavy industrial lasers , stuff like a 4′ x 8′ 1500watt slab discharge will cosa $100’s of thousands.

Just to go on what lasers Rodney has mentioned they are exactly the same models that Technology Supplies do supply to the education market.

    Hi,
You could try Identify, they’re down in Bristol.Very knowledgable people when it comes to lasers. We run two epilog lasers, a legend 120 watt and a Radius 100watt.They run all day everyday mainly doing vector cutting but occasionally some photo engraving. Both machine have been very reliable and trouble free. They occasionally get second hand machines come up for sale.So it may be work getting in touch to see if they have anything in.

Hope thats of some help 🙂
