We only just bought a router from Simon Avril in Tekcell Cnc. Brillant machine and a total workhorse. I had researched this for 6 months before deciding on which to go for. On personnel experience I would go tekcell again and again. A lot of companies go for axyz which by all accounts are supposed to be very good also but tekcell kept coming back through research as the machine for me

    I’m an axyz user…
like James i did research etc
as i did NOT have a specific purpose/material for buying a router (which plays a big factor if you do) i went for the best all rounder i could find. money is always important but backup, warranty, bed size etc etc all comes into play…
i went to signuk about 8 years ago and spoke with Stu on the axyz stand…
AXYZ offered the biggest bed sizes for the best money by far. we had £2000 knocked off our machine and given 5 years full warranty on the machine. could not ask for better… we saved around £8000 on other machines available and "they had a smaller bed size".

I saw another post on the same topic below where the guy bought a Shop sabre.

I have an Axyz 4010 5ft x 10ft with 10hp spindle, it fine I’ve had it 3 years now and had a few small issues with the rubber belts they use on the gantry, the teeth become misformed and then you have to change the belts.

Its fine for general signmaking, I guess it all depends on what you want. If I was to buy again it would be a Multicam 3000 or 5000 series machine, it puts Axyz in the dark ages, the edges on acrylic are perfect or aluminium, use a diamond tool to polish after cuting and you’ll get a laser like finish, this is not the same with Axyz, on the Multicam 3000 you have a steel gantry against an aluminium axyz gantry, the vacuum table on the MC 3000 is completely different to AXYZ its not a chocolate block mdf. Then again the axyz is similar to Multicam 1000series you get what you pay for.

The toolchanger on the Multicam is very smooth the machine is servo driven and not stepper motors like AXYZ, so I guess its down to budget, and what you want it for.

I was at Sign Scandinavia last week as we are just buying a large format printer, and talked alot with the Multicam people.

A friend of mine that has 2 axyz machines just traded one for a Multicam 5000, as axyz had nothing to compare it with, I’m going to visit him during the summer, it was delivered last week, and see how he’s getting on.

At the end of the day you have to look at your type of work, the speed at which you want to work at, and how critical you are on the finished product.

Axyz is a great all round machine, and perfect for most sign shops, there are just a few features and build quality issues I prefer with the multicam, but I’m not swapping out the Axyz just yet!
