  • Any other wording for ‘Cafe’ or ‘Tea rooms’ ?

Posted by Ian Muir on February 27, 2009 at 8:57 pm

    Hi folks

Have a customer who had old sign saying ‘tea rooms’ + other stuff.

New sign at first was to say ‘Cafe’ cos they also do sit down meals, now the family are split, some saying ‘cafe’ makes it sound too down market others saying ‘tea rooms’ does not explain what is available.

Cafe or tea room is in a tourist village with very picturesque surroundings but the area is not exploited like the Lake District for example, most tourism stems from owners of static caravans living in the feeder Cities of Sunderland and Newcastle, but there is a push to ‘upmarket’ the area.

So can anyone think of other terms that might describe this business because I cannot at moment…..

It’s not a bistro, just a provider of home cooked Country food…. and tea!

I always thought ‘Eaterie’ was a nice word in certain informal settings. Diner is another possibility?

Ack! We have a Country Kitchen just up the street; cheap and greasy and always packed.
There is a giant fiberglass Humpty Dumpty on the roof.
One other restaurant that’s pretty local is Good Ole Uncle Bob’s.

i recently did some signage for a local firm who just do healthy eating
they won’t do greasy, bacon, sausage + egg butties etc

    they went for

    café – bar – bistro

(non alcoholic, the bar was a smoothie bar and the accent on café made all the difference)

Healthy eating it ain’t Micky, but in this case it is good wholesome fayre…. up here healthy eating is when you don’t ask for your Mars Bar to be battered and deep fried…..
