Any entry level routers?
Posted by Shane Powell on March 24, 2014 at 11:58 pmHi there folks, I don’t really want to go out and by a CNC and really want to get some experience in cutting /engraving materials, mainly for personal development and other projects I am involved in.
Can anybody point me in the direction of an amateur solution for cutting without having to spend too much.
Thanks,
Badger🙂

One of our grumpy old UKSBer’s, Phill Fenton built his own and it’s working brilliantly.

Someone asked about routers quite recently & Phill mentioned his machine was still going strong.
Really depends what sort of materials you want to cut & what sort of size. -

Oi! I heard that!
:lol1:
Yes it’s true, you really can build one (even with no prior knowledge) simply by following instructions and guidance available in books and forums.
Here’s pictures of my own machine in it’s current state:-

Shane , the machines coming out of China are 1st class , you can buy a 2.4m x 1.2m machine with a 3hp spindle for under 3000 quid. Smaller ones are cheaper. You CAN DIY one , but its cheaper and better in the long run to buy
I deal with a co called Shenui , in liaocheng city in china. Been to their factory – professional setup .. bought some lasers from them and saw their CnC machines in operation.
Best way to contact is skype – Blanca Yan is the best to speak to , her name is blanca610616.

Hi folks, that’s great, I would love to build one but don’t really have the time at the mo so will look into maybe buying one in the near future.
Thanks again

Before you go to the expense of buying something think about what you want to do with it, worth joining one or two of the cnc forums & asking questions on there before parting with any cash.
Size, type of work you want to do, materials you want to be able to cut with it are all factors you need to take into account & ask questions about, Trade in machines might be an option for you from some of the suppliers that have upgraded customers but can’t tell you who might do that.
