  • Any done an Arboricultural Method Statement?

You thought digging a whole was simple…. 🙄

I have a sign for a local School currently going through planning that’s taking ages (you would think the Forth Bridge was being erected!)

2 post holes are to be sited within 4m of an established tree. Tree doesn’t have a TPO & is not in a CA area. But being established the powers that be don’t want it effected.

The latest comment on the application has come from a ‘Tree Officer’ he is happy with the application but works must be carried out per:

An Arboricultural Method Statement is required to place the sign in this position and must include a hand dig method to excavate the hole (fork over the soil and then carefully remove, no roots over 2.5cm dia are to be severed without consulting and arborist if larger roots are found they can either be ducted to the side of the hole or a new hole must be dug). The holes must be lined with a =non permeable membrane prior to the concrete / mix being put in to prevent lime induced chlorosis of the roots.

So has anyone done an Arboricultural Method Statement that I could take a look at?

    Thank’s all.

    Tim.

I believe Monty Python did one.

"I chop down trees, I wear high heels" etc.

    Sorry. 😳

you have all you need above just re-write as if this is the steps you are going to take as you dig the hole include your membrane material i would suggest a plastic tube etc (maybe a plastic barrel cut down). Other than that just contact a local tree surgeon & see what they would do

Tim – Kevin is spot on with that advice, I’d just use piping membrane that you can get from most good builders merchants. (seems a lot of work but the council rightly or wrongly need to see the boxes ticked)
