    Hi guys,

I’ve got corel set up to do cut lines in the usual way – colour set to CutContour and applied as a hairline outline.

I’ve a customer trying to supply artwork to me using this by exporting as a PDF (this all works fine on my system) Trouble is when I import the file to versaworks there are no dancing ants.
If I import there file to my copy of corel X3 then export as a PDF then this solves the problem BUT as the artwork is being created in X4 there are some issues with importing the PDF.

As this is likely to be an ongoing project with lots of differnet artwork it would be good to get it set up to run nice and smooth – does anyone have any suggestions of what we could try?

    Many thanks,

    G

    Hi Gavin

Sorry I don’t know CorelDraw but regarding your problem could you not ask him to supply the artwork as 2 separate files, 1st being the artwork and the 2nd being the cut line?

just a thought which might help

    cheers

I would ask your customer to:
    Convert text to curves
Save down to an X3 file
You can then open in your version and set up as normal.

Both options are possible and will get the job done. Though over the next couple of years we may be looking at hundreds of jobs, with some being a combination of files. The customer is happy to learn to get it as we need it to save everyone time and hassle.

Basically if there is not a way to do it we will work around but ideally we will be supplied with a PDF, import to versaworks and set to print and cut – I don’t want to even look at the file before production if possible. We are at the testing stage at the moment so any other suggestions will be worth a bash.

    Thanks, G

Have you tried printing to CutePDF rather than publishing to pdf or printing to the independent postscript driver in Draw and then putting the ps file in you rip

I use hairline cutpath in corel x4, publish to pdf works absolutely fine – have they definately got the cutpath right?

I’ve also noticed that if you import a job (with a cutpath hairline on) on a machine that doesnt have this set as a custom palette colour it’ll create and save it for future work. Perhaps you could get your client to open one of your x3 files and see if the colour is then in his/her palette?

Andy that sounds promising, I think I’ll pop round with a file then I get a proper look at it myself.

    Cheers, G
