    Hi

Wondering whether anybody can give me some advice.

I have one telephone line for my business, for which I take day to day calls, and want to be able to receive faxes as well as take answer phone messages when I’m out on a job. Is there a way that I can perhaps configure a fax machine to auto detect if it’s a fax coming through and kick in and in turn take a message if its not a fax.

Anybody know of any particular equipment that’s capable of this.

    Thanks

    Russ

    hi russ 😀

i have a panasonic fax/phone which detects when a fax comes through, and with the additional phones around the workshop, you can programme and enter a dialling code so when your in another room on another phone you punch in the code and the fax will come through on the main phone 😕 hope that made sense…

i used to have one of those box things that you put in your line but they never worked very good

you can buy a ‘duet switch’ that can detect a fax from a phone call, and it sends the call to the correct appliance. They work well, used one for years.

Now tho, our phone service here (Telecom) offer a duet phone line, so as long as youre answering machine and/or fax are duet compatible, you don’t need anything else. I’ve been using this service for many years now. I’m surprised your telephone service supplier would not offer something similar… or are we here in australia actually more advanced for a change than our overseas cousins 😉

I have a 07005 number for faxes and they come through as emails. The number is free and available from http://www.dmclub.co.uk

    Hi Russ,

I have a Sharp UX-D50 (there will be a newer model now tho) telephone fax that does exactly that. Cost about £120 I think. You can pick these up easily from Argos or Comet or probably cheaper online

Have a look at Viking….. we just got a new Brother fax, scanner, colour copier (with document feeder) and printer all in one for £139. had a voucher for £20 off making it £119 and got a free 21" colour TV!!!

That aside, we do have a separate line for our fax machine.

This is the one we got, looks like the offer may have finished (it was on the back of a catalogue they sent us):

    http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/catalog/ … 465&sgID=3

They do have this offer at the moment tho:

    http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/catalog/ … id=OJ6310&

If I can find the item number for the free TV one tomorrow I’ll let you know.

We bought a couple of DELL 1600N multi function printers a couple of months ago.

Basically Fax, (ethernet) colour scanner, n(ethernet) laser printer/copier.

Delivered for £120.00 inc VAT from ‘RDC’ (DELL factory refurbs)

Superb quality as it’s a rebadged Samsung I think.

ps. you can do the usual thing & connect a phone through/to it. Just set the FAX to answer after a set number of rings….. only thing missing is an answering machine. 🙄 can’t have everything all of the time.

Hi Russell, you can also get software for the computer, so all messages and faxes are saved to the hard drive so you only need to print of the faxes you need and delete the hundreds of unwanted ones, save a fortune in paper.

    Cheers
