  • Anti vandal / UV coating…

Posted by Paul Munford on April 16, 2006 at 9:43 pm

    Hi,
There are a few sign companys that offer a coating which is scratch resistant/Anti-vandal and UV stable. Its not a laminate and looks like a spray finish?.could be…fibreglass?….epoxy?….polyester resin?
I have seen it applied over vinyl and inkjet prints so i would assume it is water based rather than solvent?
We are manufacturing aluminium signs with a cellulose spray finish and would like to find a clear top coat product that will offer more protection.
Any ideas or info greatly appreciated..
    Paul.

There is a product here called ‘Barracaid’ and it is a 2 pac polyurethane. You have to spary 3 or 4 light misty coats then 1 heavier to finish. Excellent product but has a very short shelf life.

Techinks do a 2 pac waterbased product called graficoat. I have used this on banners and it is very good.

or Viponds do one too http://www.ags.com.au/store/subcategory … goryID=534

Hi there. There is a product over here called Frog Juice. Excellent anti-graffiti laminate, and will extend the life of the sign.
    Try http://www.superfrog.com. for info

Roll on is better than the spray, goes on like glass. We use it a lot. Toxic as hell, so needs a well ventilated area for application, but great for what you are looking for. Good luck.

Shane / Janice, Thanks for the replies….
The coating ive seen is almost indestructable! You can scratch it with a sharp implement with little or no effect.
As our signs are embossed aluminium rolling on a liquid laminate wont work, they would have to be sprayed…
    Thanks anyway………The search goes on…….

Sounds like a 2 pack epoxy clear coat eg.
last 4 items on the page. Never used it, but sounds impressive.
