  • another question regarding engraving machines

Posted by Vitor Brito on July 4, 2005 at 2:04 am

I was thinking in combining this new laser engraver with another machine for some diferent stuff but i would need it to engrave in aluminium at least with 1 mm, can it be done? even if it is time consuming. This would be to prepare the aluminium to use in the other machine.

    Thanks again.

Plenty questions on the way, Rob now i’m goin to give the router and engraving forum section a new meaning!! :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

The type of Co2 laser you would buy does NOT engrave any metal at all.
There are various pastes you can put onto metal that when lasered leave a permanent black engraving(its a mark really)
You can however put a polyester vinyl on the metal , laser it away and etch the metal where you lasered it. Not even the guys with bigger lasers (1kw+) like to work in ally , its one of the metals thats very hard to laser well.
There are about a billion other things you can do with a laser engraver , amazing machines!!
Any questions , just ask me , we run 3 of them.

    Question for Rodney,

Have you had any experience on the Stellermark I laser’s from GCC?

I am consdering one in the future , but am a little wary as our local distributor has never brought one of the GCC galvo lasers into the country and I’m not sure about their level of expertise with this machine or their ability to help fault find etc. I would like to see one in action prior to purchasing and they wont bring one in unless I purchase , kinda a catch 22 situation.
I’ll prolly go with another make like a Zenith where the distributors of that make have a few out in the field and seem far more savvy.
I had a chinese guy here offering me a complete high powered fibe or Pumped diode YAG system for about 1/3rd of the cost of comparables , the sources were all the same and I was sorely tempted , but the guy could hardly speak English and was a little clueless re the abilities so I would be a TOTAL support orphan with one of them!!
I would love a galvo yag as it would free my CO2 lasers from the fiddly branding they do and allow me to use them for heavier duty jobs.
