My son Alex, entered a national competition to make a pop video and was one of the ten finalists.

He won a weekend at Hurtwood House a private arts/ film making school which is £13,000 a term to attend 😮 . We drove him there and it was like trying to find Hogwarts from Harry Potter. It was a group of stunning mansions in the Surrey Hills.

He met top video production people etc. and a couple of weeks ago he attended a prestigious dinner / party in London where they also had a private screening of the film ‘Senna’ along with the director with a Q & A afterwards.

Alas he didn’t win the overall prize, but was a great experience for him.

He turned 16 the day the competition finished so they allowed him to enter as it was 16 to 21 age group.

Brief was to pick one of 4 songs they gave you and make a video to it.
This was sponsored by Polydor records and was also announced in the Daily Mirror.

Anyway this is entry. He came up with the idea and filmed and edited it all himself whith the aid of his mates camera. As a surprise we bought him a Cannon D60 for his birthday (good camera so I’m told 😕 )

The robot heads were made by me BTW, oracal 3164 covered the boxes beautifully 😀

So it’s a political satire of a video, giving emphasis to the increasing sense of alienation that young people in the 21st century feel vis a vis society as a whole. Indirectly it tackles resounding issues of race, interpersonal relationships, and of course the immortal dialectics of individualism versus conformity. On top of all that he tossed in a bit of romance for the ladies. Well done that chap. My only criticism is that it didn’t have any guns, blood, or erotica in it. I’m sure he’ll move on to all that stuff, as you do…
