    Hi all,
I’m pretty sure I’ve read a topic on here before regarding this but for the life of me can’t find it in the search field. Not quite sure where I’m standing with this but we’re doing a large promotional stint for a well known supermarket chain. They’ve been happy to provide all relevant artwork but are unwilling to provide the font as they believe it is illegal to share it.

We will only be using this for their works. Purchasing the font isn’t a problem but it’s more to do with the fact of whether we’re entitled to use the font they send to us. I was always under the impression the client could supply the font for their own work.

Surely if it’s work for the customer themselves, they can supply us the font?

Depends on the licence, as I understand it fonts are only allowed to reside on a given number of computers, If there is a few quid in the job I would just buy the font and then you could use it for other projects. If this is not practical get the designers to convert everything to curves/paths.

My interpretation has always been the same as Alan’s in that the licence allows you to use that font on a particular machine, bit like windows licences and sign making software licences.

Well if that’s the case, admittedly – we’ve done numerous jobs where the font has been supplied. I know for the sake of a few quid it’s worth securing the rights but if the job is for the people that own the font, isn’t it still covered?

We’ve purchased the font anyway but would be good to know what others have done in these situations, thanks.
