  • Another Corel vs. GraphTec question?

Hey, this is Mike, new guy with another Corel vs. CuttingMaster problem. I purchased me a Graphtec CE-5000 cutter for Christmas. I currently have Corel X-4 edu. version, and v12 oem. the full suite, just not retail. I realize the edu. version is not compatable with cuttingmaster, (plus I can’t use it for business), so I’ve ordered a "FULL" version of X-4. After doing a little more researching, I’m not so sure the "FULL" version is going to have the VBA stuff that I need either? Any thoughts? Am I gonna have to buy the full retail package, just to get this cutters software to play nicely? And buying Flexi isn’t really an option at this time. Thanks in advance Mike

To the best of my knowledge the educational version DOES have VBA and so does the full retail version. V12 had it but didn’t install it by default. You will need the latest version of Cutting Master from the Graphtec USA site – http://www.graphtecamerica.com/insvdo-c … tters.html to run with X4.
I had a go with it but found it too slow unless objects not to be cut were put onto a non printing layer and I had issues with groups. I know Chris from here had his problems with it and that’s what prompted me to explore further. Chris does use a printer driver to good effect though and he may well reply with more info.

I’m not sure about 12 oem but my X3 oem had no VBA. Uninstalled and went back to my full copy of 12 as a result. X4 is next on the list as soon as possible.

graphtec really have to sort this out i see no end of people struggling and the struggle is not worth it.

graphtec do supply a windows printer driver that is just fine with any ver of corel etc.

personally i wish graphtec would develop the driver a little further the only down side is a limit of around 2800mm. and its been that for 11 years to my knowledge.

First, let me say Thanks for the input, been trying to get Graphtec tech support for two days now, I’ve seen post on forums before about what a joke that is. I downloaded the latest version from graphtec, my two anti-virus programs went crazy when I un-zipped the file. I’ve been chatting with a guy over here, in the same boat, but he actually got the tech support on the phone, and they figured out the Corel needs a "run time" VBA script, and of course Corel doesn’t have any support except for retail sales.
I don’t understand this VBA script stuff, I just got my new 892 page Corel X-4 manual, and read all about vba’s, and still just as lost as when I started. But, besides Corel, I can’t even get the cuttingmaster program to import an eps. file directly from a disc, all it seems to want to accept is some DMX file, or something. I did cut some text with the CutingMaster, just to make sure it had some sort of communication, cutter is SWEEEEEEEET, but it’s just siting there with it’s thumb up its butt, while the chinese P-Cut machine is pumping out all the work. Is it just me, or does anyone else see something terribly wrong with that picture? Again, Thanks for all the help, hope every one has a Great New Year.

VBA in Corel (& Word amongst others) allows macros and the like to be run. These macros are little add ons/plugins that can add extra features oe functionality to Core Draw. A few are supplied with Draw ie callendar maker and file converter, they can be found in X4 under tools – macros – run macros and choosing the one you want. There are many others available some free at http://www.oberonplace.com or http://www.macromonster.com – check them out, you will also find a better explanation as well.
In Corel you can also make your own macros to automate some tasks, look in hep but basically go to tools – start recording and then do your routine which can be saved as a hot key for playing back later. Not all features are supported and it needs playing with.
FYI the macros are gms files and are found in the gms folder of Draw, you literally drop them in and restart Draw.
Cutting Master from Graphtec and WinPlot from Summa make use of some of VBA but they are a little more sophisticated than a gms.
A Macro I reccomend is ‘Recent files from http://recentfiles.netfirms.com/
but virtually all from the sites above will add something extra.
    Hope this helps a bit

hi, I am a macro/VBA programmer. I think you install Corel using the Custom option and then add Visual Basic for Applications or if Excel is installed then you may have already installed VBA, I cant remember of top of my head. To be honest the Corel support is saying that VBA is not included in the Education version, however I know that is not the case as its working lol

I’m not sure it was included in previous education versions Dave, but I’m sure it is included in the educational X4.
I seen to remember in earlier versions of Corel there was an incompatibility if Word macros or VBA was used although I never came across it.

Thanks Dave, and Alan. Since I’ve had no luck getting tech help at Graphtec, I’m going by what Terry said, that we need a "RUN TIME’ vba or macro, or something. The CuttinMaster program has a box come up, saying CorelDraw is not running, when I know it is. I’m going to try a re-install of the v.12, and add the vba, and see how that works. Thank You guys.

Just looking at the original post and I note that your V12 is oem, I’m not sure oem versions had vba either. From what I understand the VBA part was licenced and consequently because of cost that is the reason it is left out of some versions.

Check that the following folder can be written to

C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4\Draw\GMS or wherever you chose for the installation folder

as that’s where the cut/plot macro go’s into on installation. I had all kinds of problems as i upgraded from previous versions but the folder was set to read only and the cut/plot macro wasn’t put in.
I uninstalled all previous versions and also removed all corel folders in safe mode (as access was denied in normal mode) and install X4 and then the graphtec corel plugin ( must be the latest version).

It looks to me like I’m gonna have to shell out 3-400 bucks for a retail version, just to get this macro whatever, and they wonder why their software gets pirated. While I like this GraphTec machine, the little I cut with it, I’m wandering if the Cut Studio that comes with a Roland cutter has as many issues, cause I’ll box this thing up and send it back in a minute. Wonder if this is GraphTec’s software engineers, showing their sense of humor? Thanks, you guys have been Great, can’t wait to be able to afford a full membership, may be awhile with all my software buying.

Do you have the launcher icon in corel. I had exactly the same issue when i launched the cut plot icon in the launcher menu. This was all because the cut/plot macro wouldn’t go in to the GMS folder on installation.
I don’t think it’s down to the version you have as I’ve had ver 12 working on the plugin, then X3 and now X4 ( you need the latest cutting master 2 ver 1.40 though for X4)
I also have had Corel Drawings X3 (embroidery package) using the cutting master 2 plug-in as well.
    Alex.
