Am I being scammed??
Hi there…
I wonder if this is a genuine communication or not I wondered if anyone would put my mid at rest….. I first received this email…..Dear Manager,
(If you are not the person who is in charge of this, please forward this to your CEO,Thanks)
This email is from China domain name registration center, which mainly deal with the domain name registration in China. We received an application from BaoYuan Ltd on December 17, 2012. They want to register " gogirlsigns " as their internet keyword and China/Asia (CN/ASIA) domain names. But after checking it, we find this name conflicts with your company. In order to deal with this matter better, so we send you email and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China or not?

Dear Cheryl,Based on your company having no relationship with them, we have suggested they should choose another name to avoid this conflict but they insist on this name as CN/Asia domain names (.asia and .cn and .com.cn and .net.cn and .org.cn) and internet keyword on the internet. In our opinion, maybe they do the similar business as your company and register it to promote his company.
According to the domain name registration principle: The domain names and internet keyword which applied based on the international principle are opened to companies as well as individuals. Any companies or individuals have rights to register any domain name and internet keyword which are unregistered. Because your company haven’t registered this name as CN/ASIA domains and internet keyword on the internet, anyone can obtain them by registration. However, in order to avoid this conflict, the trademark or original name owner has priority to make this registration in our audit period. If your company is the original owner of this name and want to register these CN/ASIA domain names (.asia and .cn and .com.cn and .net.cn and .org.cn) and internet keyword to prevent anybody from using them, please inform us. We can send an application form and the price list to you and help you register these within dispute period.Kind regards
I thought then It could be a scam reference the price list…then I got one from another person…

Our company has submitted the "gogirlsigns " as CN/Asia domain name and Internet Keyword, we are waiting for Mr. John’s approval. We think this name is very important for our products in Chinese and Asian market. Even though Mr. John advises us to change another name, we will persist in this name.

The checking time will be over soon, we have not received your reply about the domain name and internet keyword since our last communication. You must know domain name takes open registration, this is international domain name registration principle. So the company has right to register them. As a domain name registrar, we have no right to refuse their application. We aslo suggest this company should change another name but they stick to this name so if your company want to prevent anybody from using these domains, the only way is to register these CN/ASIA domains and internet keyword. In our checking time, your company has first priority to register them. Could you tell us whether your company want to make this application to prevent anybody from using them or not?

Should I ignore?…It looks as tho my gogirlsign.com domain has gone to auction too…should I buy it for this inflated price?

This is a scam they search for simliar names to companies that have websites and then find free similar ones and kid you on someone is interested.

We did have a similer email at least 6-8 years ago, they said someone wants the .com of your website, do we want it first…I thought it was a scam and said let them have it, but they were true.
We later found a company used it to redirect people to their website if someone just used just a name for searches.. they of course made and sold the same products we did.
It took several years keeping an eye on it before we could buy it back without spending $2000

I’m a registrar with Nominet and have a few names, I get this type of email sometimes along with ones which are involved with SEO – ignore them.

If you are unsure, maybe you could register them yourself through another company
based in the UK, or at least find out the price for registering, and see if it’s worth it. -

Dont think nominet will be much help – think they only deal with .co.uk domains.

A few years a go, we had a phone call from a company saying they had a company trying to register a domain similar to ours. I think they were trying to get us to buy the domain name (at their inflated price), so I just thanked them for the information, and then bought the name from our usual domain provider at cost price.

My advice to everybody the noo is to make sure your registration doesn’t expire tho.. one of my customers contacted me recently to ask why I had turned her Jewelry website into a porn site… as if I’d do a thing like that 😮
Turns out she had let the name expire and, within seconds of it doing so, some company from Canada bought it and replaced it with, well… to be fair, I think one or two of the pictures did include jewelery.
The solution, of course, was simple; buy the domain back for £1200 or the porn site remains in place.
An old trick that, but very effective.
The moral of the story? I drew a couple of conclusions actually: 1) despite what they say about Canadians, they are pretty ruthless business-wise, and 2) luminous pink stockings just don’t work well with black heels.

it is indeed a blue spot on my nose & is there in relation to a post made by Jill on the happy new year thread.
Probably a bad choice of colour considering I live in Scotland lol. I’m not a football fan at all & if I was would probably support an English team seeing as that’s where I am originally from.Cheryl, sorry about the hijack, see the auction is well past it’s sell by date but still open to bids.
