Does anyone know, or has anyone tried any alternatives to the genuine Epson Durabrite cartridges when using transfer paper?

    Im hammering the cartridges lately.

Epson printers don’t work well with non Epson ink from experience. The colours and quality tend to suffer badly.
I have worked for Epson as a contractor both in the UK and Japan, working on their ink blending equipment. When you see the R&D that goes into the inks alongside printer development, you will see why the Epson ink is so good.
I believe that Roland Eco Sol Max ink is actually an Epson ink.

I don’t agree Jason. I’ve been using MIS inks in my Epson 4000 for quite a while now and I’ve had no issues at all. Actually I didn’t notice any difference in print quality when changing over from the genuine UltraChrome Epson pigment set to the equivalent MIS pigment. In fact the MIS ink seems to have better archival test results.

Paul, http://www.inksupply.com also offer Durabrite equivalent MIS inks.

Paul, even with the additional delivery cost from US to Australia I still save a heap paying $50 USD per pint 😀

continuous ink supply i think – small tanks on the side of the printer feeding ink via tubes to the special carts, with always full chips on them.

i can understand why manufactures use carts as its quick and clean for the operator.and costly.
got a cheep cis on my r285 for dye sub and quite impressed, could and will make a mess one day.

Ah right, Ive got a subli CIS supply for my Epson 1400 but always just thought it was called a Bulk System.

Has anyone ever used cis inks with Xpres inkjet paper? Just spoke to a very helpful chap at a supply company who recommended changing to a HP printer for the cis system but Xpres recommend Epson.

So far I’ve only used genuine Epson inks in our new 1400. The R285 is now relegated to printing invoices etc but was previously used for transfer paper printing. I’ve only ever used third party inks in the 285 (Pro Jet) which worked out at £10 for a set of 6.

Having printed the same images out using both printers onto Target Transfer’s paper the difference is quite noticeable. Where the reds and blues tended to bleed over an outline they now stay firmly in place and are altogether more vibrant.

I guess strictly speaking there should be profiles for third party inks which might improve them but for now I’m going to stick with Epson and build the price more into the finished product.
