there is only one chrome cast on the market that i am aware of being used for wrapping and that’s 3M. you can buy thru WmSmiths, that’s where i got mine.

i think grafityp now offer a 5 year chrome but i don’t think its a cast, but i could be wrong on that. best check!

spandex also sell 3M, but found Smiths more competitive, which maybe as a result of my UKSG discounts.

Jim you will find all three of these suppliers on the UKSB Sign Toolbar under suppliers tab, number 1

would be interested in knowing more on the avery if its an actual cast chrome mate. the 3M is not warranted for wrapping as far as i know, but that is the one thats commonly being used.
do you have any avery info on it? i have RHG in this week so would be good to ask them about it.

    This confirmed?

Any links to legislation confirming chrome on cars isn`t allowed?

I`d like to know what the reasoning is behind it.

I had a chrome panel (sample wrap) on my Range Rover and was pulled over by VOSA.

Had to strip it in front of them as apparently the ‘glare’ from the sun would cause other drivers to be blinded. (Like we get the sun!)

I see their point, but it still looks nice tho!

    Are you kidding Rod.
I can’t believe this stuff is even being encouraged to put on cars. Surely when the sun hits it, it becomes like a mirror, hence blinding other drivers.
No way on earth it should be legal.

I know this is not about wrapping but what are the regs on Chrome lettering on vehicles? Lots of vans with biggish chrome writing on in town…

I would have thought with the amount of chrome on new vehiclie body styling that there will be "at least" a limit.

as has been said, yeh, i see where chrome body work will reflect sun, if not headlights on a back/dark road and cause glare to drivers.

all this aside, ide be interested if there is an "actual written law" or if it is made up by the local traffic police?

I imagine it’s a made up rule. It’s probably why the chrome wraps being done now often have a printed fade over the top

i`ve never seen a chrome wrapped vehicle in direct sun shine but i`m not convinced the mirror/glare effect would be that significant.

i`ve seen many commercial vehicles with many extras made from chrome and while the do sparkle and reflect in the sun, i didn`t feel it was to the detriment of other road users.

Theres some Harley Davidson motorcycles which are around 90% chrome with no real issues.

I`m just curious as to who has decided it is dangerous and what the actual terminology is for disallowing it.

Personaly, i think it looks horrible! 🙂

Umm.. im not sure how true this is, quite a few friends have had cars done in chrome, SLR, range rover, R8.
Non of them seem to have any issues with driving them around, ive not heard any mention that they have been pulled for this reason. Would be good to know dont want them to have to strip their entire car infront of VOSA.. haha. or do i :lol1:
