  • Advice on suitable board material for tipper body

Posted by Neil Speirs on February 23, 2011 at 11:47 am

I have a job to do on a ford based tipper truck, the client has requested 2 flat panels for the sides of the tipper because of the body ripples. After speaking to RH I have the choice of using either a skybond panel or Target hoarding panel. Is there any reason I couldn’t use the hoarding panel as it’s nearly £20 cheaper?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks
    Neil

hoarding board has a thinner skin, and is only finished on one side, and the finish is not as good as the skybond

I would go for skybond for the extra cost,

Cheers Peter, I’ve never handled any hoarding material before so I was a bit wary of the initial saving.

I’ve used hoarding board a few times and not really had any problems with it for what I have done. Peter is correct in that the skin is thinner and the surface coat is not quite as good but it isn’t bad.
Neil why don’t you get a sample and see for yourself, this is going on the side of a tipper truck so will be wrecked in a week or so anyway.

The ripples in the panel aren’t actually that bad if they are the same as the ones I have done. But the vehicles were all new and hadn’t got any knocks or scratches in them when I did them.

I find getting any sort of a sample from RH is near impossible nowadays 🙁 It wasn’t that bad when it was Europoint though.

It’s the customers request to have these panels so what the customer wants the customer gets 🙂 🙁

I have to admit that I haven’t actually asked them for any samples so didn’t realise just how difficult it was. I don’t tend to buy as much from them these days so have probably lost touch a bit.

Most of the stuff we do now is digital – if you’re mounting a laminated print onto composite just use hoarding, you’ll never know the skin is thinner once theres a layer of vinyl over it.
