  • Advice on sourcing Coloured sublimation mugs?

Posted by Jay Austin on September 30, 2011 at 8:37 am

    Morning all

We have just had an enquiry for photos to be printed (sublimated) on to some mugs for a customer. This is a big part of the business, which we do quite happily on white 11oz mugs, but this enquiry is to produce on to blue mugs but I can’t seem to find any suppliers of coloured sublimation mugs. I can find companies to produce them for us but think this will be very small quantities so am looking for a supplier so we can do them ourselves.

    Any thoughts all gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jay

You won’t be able to sub onto a blue mug as your sub printer won’t print any white ink so photo work wouldn’t work. There are mugs that are coloured but have a white square to sub onto – never used them but heard the results aren’t that great.

Ah, thanks John, yes very good point about the white print. I did know that but just hadn’t put that bit into this scenario! Thanks for your advice.

Novachrome offer coloured mugs that allow you to screen onto.
The mugs are coloured but have a wash/screen of white over the face to allow direct subbing too…

They have various good products, not a fan of their "after sales" efforts though. 🙄

I have used their mugs, find them to be quite expensive though (only compared to what i normally pay) but you do get a great product for your money.

You can actually get a blue mug from xpres.co.uk but it’s a heat change mug so it’s blue until you put something hot in it. You can’t see the print when its cold (you can but its very feint) when its full of hot water the mug is white and the print is as clear as day!
