Advice on sourcing a WorkBench please?
Back in January we had a flood and it destroyed our 2 wooden workbenches.
These were 2off 8’x5′ joined together giving a workspace of 16’x5′.
I am now looking for a supplier for new benches as the wooden construction destroyed the last ones I am not to bothered if they are now 10×5 as a bit bigger would be handy.
I have had a look at JAG signs catalog but for that size you have to have a piece unsupported in the middle. I don’t want a unsupported part as it will dip in the middle and I want it perfectly flat overall.SC

I’m sure there’s a tutorial on here somewhere on how to make them mate. Would be far cheaper.

To be honest I do not have any time to start fabricating benches.
I learned a long time ago to stick to what I do and that’s sign making not steel fabrication.
Also I am now signed and payed up to so many sites I am not spending no more money this year.Just want to know where I could buy a couple of benches!!

I had the frame for mine made by a local engineering company who I do some work for. I then topped them with 10’x5′ 25mm ply with a cutting mat on top and put in some 8’x4′ 9mm ply for shelves underneath. I also had him fold 2 pieces of ally which sit under the edge of the bench on either side for knives, rulers, rolled up excess material etc. Got the frames powder coated by another firm on my estate and hey-presto, a bench that will last many years. Not cheap but then it is one of the most essential bits of kit I have.

Buying Benches should be easy Sean. you can get them all over the net. B&Q, ScrewFix etc im sure those places "might" be a good starting point for a local place?
your being specific though, so I too would suggest building your own.
I built all ours myself. doesnt take more an than a couple of hours and lucky if it costs you £30-£40 in material.
doing it yourself means you get what you want as you build to suit.
Mine are all built using "wood", not metal. even though i have my own welding facilities and can easily do it myself. still opted for wood.last one i built was 24ft x 4ft, 3×2 + 2×2 timber beams with 1inch thick MDF top.
Trade suppliers, well JAG sign supplies like you said. there is also
Trade Signz, who offer some good alternatives.

I got some from Rapid racking (http://www.rapidracking.com/) with lockable wheels (2x 5ft x 2.5ft), with some 10ft x 5ft 25mm MDF on top and then cutting board. You do end up with a very slight dip over time in the middle but not generally a problem.
