We are thinking of getting a new Cadet and need to decide on whether to have the Troop RIP or the RIP that comes in Signlab 7.1. Of course there is also Flexisign (which I prefer but only because of experience on it) but the first two are what we have been offered. We speak to different salesmen all saying their RIP is superior so that confusion reigns.

Any comments that can help please.

The RIP is the heart of the machine , it is EVERYTHING. Buy the rip that comes from the guys that support the machine and provide the inks , profiles will be optimized for it and tech support will be easier. If you new to the game , you going to need a little hand holding or a lot and when you have problems ,one person isnt blaming another “no it’s the RIP , no it’s the machine” and so on.
colorip that comes with the Versacam which is the cadet is exceptional tho quite complex if you need to mess with it. Its made by Wasatch

    do you already have signlab?

if not, then it`ll be cheaper to buy and use troop.

i use troop, and find it easy to use. although i`ve not messed with any of the settings etc.

i`ve not had any other exsperiance with other rips though….

get a sample of the same file printed via troop and signlab and compair, thats what i did, and to be honest the troop version was miles better than signlab (version 7, not the new 7.1 version)

so it was a no brainer for me…….

i use troop and find it very easy to play around with, even tweaking it to suit different materials isn’t hard.

have not used the uniform range but we own JV3 with Shiraz rip and it was down to support and the RIPs quality of print that choose it for us.

I’ll chime in for Wasatch Softrip too. I have it driving three plotters (HP5500, Encad 1000i and an Epson 9600) and find it to be a really well thought out product. The user interfact isn’t the most pretty but it is a very powerful system with great colour management integration. We make our own profiles here and with Wasatch we’ve managed to get all of our indoor medias remarkablly consistent in terms of colour consistency.

I also have Onyx PosterShop driving our solvent printer (ColorSpan 72sr). It’s feature for feature the equal of Wasatch and has a pretty user interface. Even though it looks nicer than Wasatch on the screen, I don’t really find it more effective as a product. In fact, I think it’s more a pain in the arse to use.

Anyway, you can’t to wrong with Wasatch and I would assume that the OEM versions are its equal.

    Good luck.
