  • Advice Needed on Stenciling Sericol to Curtain Siders

Posted by Dave Rich on January 25, 2012 at 9:47 am

Hi. We have applied truck vinyl lettering to curtain siders many times but now a customer wants a painted one. So we will obviously stencil cut vinyl, apply and roller in Sericol Ink, but is there a specific vinyl for the stencil, should the Sericol be thinned, is it ok to give it 2 coats etc……any advice appreciated

    thanks

Dave – I don’t have all the answers for you but some may help. I’ve done this many times in the past using screen ink but not using a stencil – brushed on (signwritten lettering) and always worked well. Any time we used a stencil it would have been liquid latex sprayed on/hand cut and then sprayed using screen ink. I would say yes to thin it down using proper thinners for the ink but as for 2nd coating you may need to be careful as the 2nd coat is liable to lift some of the 1st coat. When I’ve done this using a brush I would work fast and liberally – almost laying the 2nd coat on rather than brushing out. However a roller may be more aggressive – you’d need to try it out on a sample.

Sorry don’t have all the answers for you but hth.

Painted stacks of curtains and we used to do it by hand with a brush.

Now we use MacTac Grey Mask
    4" roller, masking paper.
    We use Apollo inks.
Apply first coat, you will have thin the ink to a milky consistency and once you finish the first coat leave it 45" to an hour and apply the 2nd if needed.
Be sure to remove masking same day preferably within about 4 hours or it may leave glue residue.
    Hope this helps.

We use the mohair/pile type, you can use a foam roller but the ink will affect it after a short while.
