  • Advice needed on Signage Boards?

    Hi

I am after fitting a sign board to a wall out side a clients shop but I am wondering what would be the best material to use so that it looks good but is also cost effective?

I have considered correx but I think it might be to cheap as a material. I was thinking possible getting some Plastic acrylic but I know that isn’t the most cost effective material. Are there any other sign boards I should use for something like this. I don’t know what boards the use for shop signs?

I have attached the mock of the design that I have shown to the client. ignore all the text it was just used as filler to give the client a ruff idea of what it will look like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers Lewis

    Lewis,

Correx would normally be used for site boards and a definite no no for any kind of fascia signage.

Acrylic/ Perspex not so popular these days as expensive not easy to cut and needs to be hung in a sign frame, definitely not screwed as it has a high expansion rate in different weather conditions.

For the job you have , with budget in mind foamex would do. This is a plastic board
Which comes in different thicknesses 5mm being the most commonly used and be be ok for this job, this can be easily cut with a Stanley knife.
I would flood coat it in vinyl to achieve the background colour.
It does come in colours but not advisable for outdoor use as it fades quickly.
If you must use foamex outdoors always make the screw holes slightly bigger than the screw to allow for expansion.

The ideal substrate for this job and what you should use is ACM,,Dibond. or.. Skybond.
Manufacturers usually have their own make.
This is a 3mm solid PVC board with a thin ally face front and back which also comes in a limited range of colours.
Easy to fit and very low expansion so ideal for exterior signage.

Popular suppliers Paperlinx, Amari amongst others. Download the toolbar which will list suppliers.

    Hope this helps

Lewis,i agree with everything martin has said, but the sign on and over the door can you not flood coat them in yellow and apply the text in green no substrate needed?? 🙂

    i agree with martin too…

i second Johns suggestion of flood coating the glass on the door and above with vinyl then apply your text. keeps your costs down further.

have to say, the colour choice and fonts are too different to the surrounding signage. looks like your walking into a different place.
i would ditch the second arrow also.
sorry i know this isnt the design forum etc, just niggled me a little. 😀

thanks for taking the time to post pictures though. makes all the difference to us when trying to advise.

Dibond also for me. Minimal site work required. Probably half hours fitting. For me, the more of the job I can complete in the workshop and less on site the better

Thank you so much for your fantastic advice I will go and have a look at the suppliers tool bar as see what sort of prices we are looking at. As for the design I totally agree it was just thrown together quickly to illustrate to the client where things could go etc. and the colour choice is their branding.

Really glad I joined this forum and I hope I will be able to give something back 🙂
