  • Advice needed on how to create this shop front?

Posted by Tim de Beir on September 15, 2012 at 10:35 pm

A satisfied client has asked me to give some advise on upgrading the shop front for his daughter’s shop, and if possible to make such a ‘photo hocus pocus’ like you did for our exterior.

So today I started designing and send in the late afternoon an email with the design, she called few hours later and was excited!

I have to make an detailed offer but have a question about the photo on the front.
How would you people take care of this?

My first idea is print on 2 panels with size because I really want no frame being visible… The problem is that the exterior is not flat at all and I would have to flatten it out by making a frame and then mount panels it.

    Few question :
print on panels does it has a gloss effect (client wants gloss effect)
witch material to use for frame, to mount panels on it
how would you flatten the surface

The exterior will be painted as I have advised them, and windowframe etc will al be the same color.
I am afraid when using a banner that there will be to much frame.

    Thanks for your advise,

Looks a great refresh of the front. I can only see it being a banner myself but I ‘know nothing’ as Fawlty Towers Manuel would say.

I am not sure about Planning though 😎

I’m with david, pretty much something like a flex-face system seen on large retail units.

the only other… very time consuming way, would be to make a large (heavy) frame and bolt it to the wall – making sure the surface was flat/horizontal, then fix the panels to the frame – much like an internal dry wall.

I do like the design though, I hope it gets made!

I would suggest a flex-face sign. you can buy the extrusion or have it fabricated as a kit. easy to work with and maintain. you could even back illuminate if need be. only thing would be that its not high gloss so rule that out. personally i think the matt finish in this instance would be better.
using a flexi sign means the extrusion is what builds the whole thing our from the uneven areas, such as the sills. then a single skin tensioned means zero joins on the face. printing direct to media also means lower production costs.
you wont see a frame either as it finishes almost flush to the edge of the extrusion. all you will see is the return, but the return can come powder coated if need be.
    worth considering…

universal do a couple of different flexiface systems now i believe. one being the old sign base uk system that i use.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice, had a look at these textile frames but h*ll they are expensive! For your information frame should be width : 3m height 4,5m

I have to stay under budget limit of 1500 pounds installation inclusive

    I agree with Ian…

you have provided them with a great transformation. Because they cannot afford you, doesnt mean you must now provide same within "their" budget.

how anyone can ask for the front of their building to be transformed like this for £1500 is delusional. 🙄

…and £1500 just to paint the whole front dark brown before any signs go up, although that may be another budget.
