  • Advice Needed for putting graphics on mini roof please?

    Hi All

I need some advice please. I have to quote to put a Union Flag on to a roof of an old style Mini and before I go ahead with it I need to know one or two things.

    1. What’s the best way to apply it. Wet or Dry?

    2. Cut the main red cross as one piece or in two piece’s. (I only have an 610mm wide cutter)

    3. I tend to use Oracal 751. Would Oracal 851 or similar be better.

    4. Is there correct blue colour to use?

Sorry for these questions (and on News Year Eve as well) but I have got to go and see my customer on Tuesday.

Thanks for your help and a Happy New Year to all.

    Regards
    Lee

Lee The main red cross is better done in one piece if you dont want joins it is easy to cut by hand from1220 vinyl. You can make the centre of the cross in 610 and use thes as a template just extend the cross pieces using a straightedge. apply dry laying the cross first. the other quarters can then be cut individually and cut to fit the cross. Dont go all the way to the gutters because of the curved corners. use the template i sent and it will be ok
Dont know about oracle but from others 751 sounds ok. I presume the mini has a white roof.

Thanks for that Peter, it makes a lot of sense. Yes, the roof is white.
If all goes well, I’ll post a photo.

Lee, the correct blue would be an issue i’d imagine.

If you know the pms colour, you should be able to ask you oracal rep to give you the closest match.

For the curves you’ll encounter, I’d imagine 751 would do the job brilliantly ::D

751 should manage it no problem mate. 851 cast will do the trick too…

    apply it dry…
its cold just now so dry application is a bit more forgiving…

one thing i would say is.. try and leave a few inchies of overlap on each colour so you can hold/tug/pull stetch etc if needed, to get it to conform.

the above is a good example of how it should look. 😉
