    Hi

I’m in the process of getting my first accountant and I just wondered what the average accountant costs and what you actually do in terms of paperwork etc for them.

I use a cloud based book keeping software and it allows me to quote, invoice, keeps all my receipts up to date and in order, tells me what vat to pay etc which I submit every quarter, the only thing it doesn’t do is the annual returns hence the accountant.

I’ve just been quoted £500 + vat for the year, seems a bit hire to me considering all they need to do is submit a few forms and it got me wondering.

I’m sure being VAT registered and a Ltd company makes a difference but still.

I still do my accounts on paper, don’t even know what a spreadsheet is!

I add up my monthly incomes, expenditures, and group them into types of expenditure, give him all the paperwork and he checks it, deducts all the additional stuff that I don’t know about, removed receipts or things I’m being cheeky with, and charges me around £300 to do that and submit. would be £500+ if I just gave him the paperwork in shoe boxes!

That’s cheap mate, also remember you get what you pay for. A good accountant will save you a lot more then they cost and a great accountant will save you tons.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

He’s due to drop the paperwork off Friday for me to sign so he can act on my behalf so I guess I’m there or there about in terms of price.
