  • Advice neede on stainless letters

Hi all, I need some advice from you all if possible.
I recently ordered and received from a well known supplier in the industry a powder coated tray and stainless wet painted letters for a job. The tray (as always) was perfect colour match and finish. The letters however, were poorly finished and had been damaged in transit.
After calling the supplier, I was told that they used a third party supplier for the letters and would like to see the damage. They were returned to the supplier.
Credit to them, they were returned reasonably quickly and repainted in a gloss finish with all the damage ‘repaired’.

My client has called telling me that the letters are still not well finished and that the painting is below standard. I have not seem them yet as I am in Torquay this weekend moving into bigger premises.
I realise that I have not seen them yet so am a little blind but can you tell me from your experience:

What level of finish should I expect from these letters. (the supplier tells me that it does not matter if they are not perfect as they will be 10 to 20 feet up on a wall so it will not be seen.)

The tray stands scrutiny at 12 inches away, should the letters not do the same?

What can I tell my customer as they expect the letters to be perfect as is the tray.

At the moment, I am in the middle having paid in full the supplier and stuck trying to get the job sorted.

Any advise, comments etc appreciated. Am I too picky?

    Thanks

    Peter

Hi Peter the statement "the supplier tells me that it does not matter if they are not perfect as they will be 10 to 20 feet up on a wall so it will not be seen" is ridiculous! I take it you informed him that they would be that high up but it does not matter what if they were eye level what could he say then??? you are not to picky you are entitled to quality workmanship and the supplier should provide that quality no matter if he subs out the work. I dont think the client will let this go so get the tray supplier involved with these issues mate.

Thanks George, my thoughts entirely. If the tray is as near as perfect as can be, I think the letters should be also. I am inspecting on Monday so will get the supplier involved again at that time.
