  • Advice need on Media for Mimaki printer please?

Hi I have recently purchased a new small Mimaki Print & cut, mainly for garments, however I would like to use it for some labels on clear and white vinyl.

I’m new to digital vinyl, and whilst I know its better to get some samples from different suppliers and try them for myself, which I am in the process of doing. I do have a couple of jobs I could do with getting on with so I wondered if somebody could recommend a clear and printable vinyl that works well with the Mimaki SS21 Inks, preferably available from the same supplier.

    thanks

    Jason

We use Metamark MDP with MG-305 gloss lam for bog standard labels, and MD5 with
MG-705 gloss lam for our higher quality work. MD3 and MD5 are both available in
clear, although we have printed on the laminates when needed. We use JV33 with
same inkset, and these materials are very good.

Cheers Jamie that’s a great help, is there a profile for these or do you opt for one of the generic profiles.

Have a look on the metamark website Jason, they have profiles on the site for media they stock. Best to check for yourself to see if they have a profile for your printer & rip combination.

on my CJV30 with SS21 inks I use Oracal 3164 for stickers without laminate.

For stickers with laminate, I use Oracal 3551 or 3651 (depending on prices I get) + OG215.

Clear vinyl: I use oracal 3651.

RIP is RasterLink and I use standard profiles delivered with the machine for every vinyl (oracal 3164) which I find OK.

I am currently testing Hexis V200 polymeric, looks good also.

I had in the past a sample roll of Metamark monomeric which was also OK.

For labels, your CJV30 (If I guess correctly) will work with any solvent vinyl.

Be carefull to keep a long delay between print and cut to avoid curling, I had curling problems on rich black bleeds on 3164 fixed with >15min delay between print and cut (heater is switch off after print). With laminate I wait 24h before laminate and cut.
