Advice for Substrate Please ASAP!!!
Posted by Gordon Forbes on October 3, 2005 at 2:48 pmHi All
I recently did some labels for a company pleased with them but they would like them stickier (Done on Poly Clay only colours that I had at the time)
All I need to know is does anyone know what is suitable for a Cadet to print on with Solvent ink and is good for labels to give good adhesion to “most” surfaces and preferably be available in Red and Green as well (just want to print black on them.) and be cheap, not a lot to ask is it??
I will try him with Oracal 3651 that I have in stock to see if this is satisfactory meantimeAny advice would be great Help and need info asap thanks
Goop

Goop,
Sorry I haven’t really got an answer but why are you limiting yourself to substrates in a particular colour if you are printing on a Cadet anyway?
-
Just a preference and not an absolute 3651 is white
I am looking for something more “sticky” and was wondering if there was a type of label stock vinyl that would address this.Goop

Forbie, do you know what they are trying to stick to? Surely most vinyls will stick to a suitable surface. Perhaps they are trying to stick to a surface that is not suitable eg porous? Are they trying to make the stickers difficult to remove? If so, there is a material called ultradestruct which only comes off in tiny, tiny pieces. KPMF do it, I think.

Hi Goop,
Iknow metamark do a “sticker vinyl” that they claim doesnt curl up once printed then applied.Hope this helps. Hey goop ive got problems with the cadet at the mo. Not sure if its something i have done? But when its finished the job, instead of completing the contour cut it cuts approx 50% of the job but about another 50% to the left. Talked to noel but we couldnt seem to see any probs. I have cleared all the previos preferences. But still no joy. Any ideas?
Cheers Matt -
The stickers are going on to tools that have just been serviced with a green label for good red for bad with spaces for tool nujber etc etc.
This will go on either bare metal or a painted finish. The sample I gave him he feels ain’t sticky enough It was older vinyl I had lying about but then again it might take time to bond correctly as most of them do build a bond over time.
I am going to try a water proof solvent printable adhesive backed paper and tonight I tried printing on to banner vinyl (that should be sticky enough) and it printed a treat all I need is some green and red though. The only problems I have encountered with it so far is that when I cancelled a job because I didn’t change from 750 to 610 and it said the page wasn’t big enough so cancelled with the pause button. Re set the page size and printed no problem but it didn’t cut the contour after. made a new contour in the software still didn’t cut after printing so I rebooted printer and PC and everything was OK after that. Have you tried re starting etc etc (probably will have by now anyway.)
Let me know how you get on anyway.

Bare metal or painted, pretty much any vinyl should work. You say an area for a tool number? Does this mean they want to write on the labels?
-
Chris – I’m still not getting where I’ve missed the point
If you are printing on a Cadet which obviously prints full colour – why limit yourself to substrates in a particular colour?
surely it doesn’t work out that much more expensive than printing just black
Apologies if I am wide of the mark here but I just don’t get why the substrtate has to be a particular colour

I think that Goop is wanting to print on red or green vinyl to save on ink-if the job’s big enough, that’s the way I would be thinking too.
I also think that peep’s are getting confuddled with you causing the vinyl a ‘substrate’ – in general, a substrate would be what we are applying the vinyl to – isn’t it?Lorraine

Lorraine, – (not wanting to hijack the thread with my misunderstandings)
Fair enough if it has to be a colured vinyl but I was thinking why limit it to a colour vinyl if say a white wrap vinyl would do the job better (seeing as this was being digitally printed not screen printed I can’t see the cost difference being a major issue)
It wasn’t me that started calling it a substrate – the thread is entitled “Advice for substrate please ASAP”

I stand correcetd…… 😳
I now understand what you meant 😀
