    Hi All

Considering getting another printer that will pretty much print canvas all the time, rather than hogging our RS640 which is needed for other work.

My criteria is to get at least equal quality to the RS640, but must be faster and have cheaper ink than the RS640.

I’m told the Canon range is good, clearly better quality and also meets the need for speed and economy.

I can see a good deal to be had on an 8300s 44".

Does anyone have any thoughts and feedback on whether the Canon is a good choice (this model or another from their range), or any other alternative manufacturers to the Canon range.

Does anyone own the 8300s model – what to you think?

    Cheers
    Macky

Hi Macky. I have installed, repaired and used loads of Canon iPF printers in my time, 8000, 8000S & 8100 and absolutely love the things. Fast, easy to use and fantastic quality!! I’ve not seen the newer 8300’s but my guess is that they can only be an improvement. The only negative thing I would say about the range is the price of the inks. Last time I looked, the 700ml bottles were over £200 and with either 8 or 12 colours, that’s quite a price. Having said that, they’re also very frugal when run from a good RIP (I only have experience with them from Shiraz). The PF-03 printheads are about £300 IIRC but come with an 18 month warranty (I would check that warranty statement though).

If you need any other advice on it, let me know and I’ll speak to one of the guys at Velmex and let you know 😉

    Hi David

Have you looked at the HP printers, seems alot of folk use those for their canvases. They state 75 year stable inks!!!!

Just looking at the moment, we use the mimaki but need an alternative to keep that free for bigger jobs.

I know zilch about these printers, but i have heard from very reliable sources only good things. they serve a purpose though and not what "from memory" the general sign maker of today would find ideal in comparison to the likes of the Roland machines or HP latex… but as i said, for the likes of what you are wanting it to do to free up your Roland, i "hear" they are very good.

sorry for being so vague, but im casting my mind back a couple of years.
in fact, was there not a competition run to win a couple of them and featured on UKSB?

We have 4 8100 installed at our place and these run day and night printing canvas, these machines are fantastic, real work horses.

If your printing the amount of canvas we do you soon forget about the cost of the cartridges although we now get these direct from canon at £170.00 which isn’t so bad considering the after markets are around £110.00

The quality of this machine compared to you other will be far superior, we have a couple of rolnad XC540 and the canon quality is way better, so no problems about quality,

    Hope this helps
