Advanced wrap courses
Posted by David McDonald on January 26, 2011 at 7:22 pmHi All
Could anyone recommend an advanced course?
We already wrap loads of vehicles and have done a considerable and ever growing number, however, we are fully self taught. I know our quality is very good but what I’m after is ‘hands on’ tips, tricks, and techniques to speed us up and may be make things easier?
Or even the name of an industry expert who we could book to come to our site?
Cheers

no probs…
The thing is, "advanced" wrapping can truly only be achieved via "experience" of many different types of applications and media. once you can confidently wrap "properly" you are already deemed at the advanced stage of vinyl application.
I can wrap, have been able to for years. but i will still go on wrap courses and even wrap open days any time i can because you "always" pick up new ways to apply, tips and tricks that are always valuable to know. i often see people scoff at the price of wrap courses and think, "how bloody niave". yes its allot of money, but how many months, vehicles, customers, mistakes, headaches will you go through to ever learn what you can in a day or two day training course. go to one, and keep going to them. go to them all if you can. you/we never stop learning.what i will say though is… for those that cannot "confidently" apply a metre square sheet of cast vinyl completely dry onto the likes of dibond in a relatively warm room. on your own… do not go on a course.
and i am not talking about bubble free, air escape type vinyls. that stuff can be put down by a 5 year old.
there is no point going on a wrap course if you are not already advanced in normal vinyl application. the course is about how to wrap, not about how to not get bubbles in your vinyl. all you will do is slow up the other trainees wanting to know about wrapping.David, good to see someone already wise to all this mate, and willing to invest further in improving their staffs ability. I am sure either andrew or james will be able to give you as many pointers as possible. maybe even get both! 😀

That is a fair and valid point Rob. When we did our wrapping course there were 8 on it , to be blunt there were only 3 (maybe 4) that could apply. Some had not even jeld a squeegee before let alone apply vinyl. This is a result of Roland or supplier giving away wrapping courses with printers though.
