is that a translucent bit of acrylic Stuart?
Is the number paint filled or vinyl?? Shouldn’t be to difficult to replicate these for anyone with a router. -
Not sure how the sample I have was done. It looks like clear acrylic with the text routed in the back and then filled with the white colour. Then the whole back coloured green but not with viny, possibly printed or painted.
Didn’t think it would be such a problem trying to source this sort of sign. Thought there must be some companies providing these for schools, hotels, offices etc for room numbersThought i might get the acrylic tiles cut and then add text, backing vinyl & doublesided tape, but that sounds like a time consuming way for 100 or so of these!!
I have actually now found an ebay co who will etch into the front of acrylic at this size for £1.20 per tile which seems very reasonable, but not the same smooth faced finish.

I would use clear acrylic, back up with reverse cut green vinyl with the number weeded out.
Then, using enamel paint, just fill in the number behind the green. -

Look like a standard engraved job Stuart, as has been mentioned. What sort of quantity are you after?
Plenty of engravers around – for peace of mind I’d find a local one who’s will to do the work for you at a trade price. I still use the engraver that I used to work closely with in Coventry (although I’m now Dorset based) Unfortunately he’s stacked out with work at the moment . . . .

Thanks for the replies and ideas.
Swaying towards the engraved route to save me time and just waiting for samples.
Don’t think I can face applying vinyl to 100 tiny squares of plastic when someone will supply & etch them for £1.20 each.
just need to see the finished quality -
I don’t really do any trade work but £1.20 each doesn’t sound like a bad price, why can’t this company you have found etch them on the back so you still have a clear flat front to them?
Do you know if they are paint filling them or using vinyl Stuart? -
hi Martin
yes just found out from another company that my sample is probably reverse engraved. That explains it.
