Accounts Software
Posted by Cookster on October 27, 2004 at 8:23 amNothing to do with signs, but we are thinking of buying some accounts software, I know a lot of companies use Quicken or Sage but as we are both a bit thick we need something that is easy to use for invoicing etc and something our accountant can understand. Just a program for invoicing would be handy as we use excel at the moment but that doesn’t create a spread sheet or database for addresses and stuff.
Be interesting to know what you guys prefer.

I recomend sage instant accounting. I have used it for 8 years and wouldn’t be without it

Have you asked your accountant?
Many accounts use software for accounts preparation and can take your details straight into the software. Most accounts prep systems takes SAge accounts.
I would from experience recommend one of the Sage products, they have been around a longtime are widely used, help readily available if you need it

like Phil i use sage i did use instant account but have moved on to sage line 50
i love it i have been using it for 6-7 years and its so easy to use -
I use Quickbooks or more to the point my wife does and she reckons it is very easy. Don’t confuse Quickbooks with Quicken.

do you not have to use specialist invoice stationery etc, when using the above mentioned programmes?
-
Sage you do not have to, I did my own layouts for invoices/statement etc on an excel spreadsheet and just print off what I need when I need to. You can buy the stationery if you want to.

On my own again here…… 🙁
MYOB
I used to use Sage until my PC broke and it was cheaper to buy a Mac accounting programme than a new PC. However, I have not regretted it as it is much easier than Sage and, more importantly, I can go back and change entries without leaving an audit trail for my accountant to find. 👿
A good accounting programme is, in my opinion, essential as you can get all sorts of useful reports from it to help keep you on the right track. Keeping track of expenses, automated debt chasing etc are invaluable and soon outweigh the cost of the software.
Oh yes, they also do a PC version.

Quickbooks does not require special stationery, you have the choice of printing on blank paper (all lines are printed as well) Pre printed stationery from Intuit, who do the software or your own design and you can alter where the numbers print so that they fit into your boxes. I suspect Sage and the other well known packages work in a similar way and like sign software everybody prefers the software they know.
