• Accountancy Bills

Posted by Denise Goodfellow on March 4, 2014 at 3:38 pm

    Hi All

I think this topic has been touched on before slightly..

We have a couple of companies – 1 is a small limited company just 2 directors taking salaries, that does quite a specialized item, therefore only has 2 sales per week.

    We`ve just had a bill for £750

    Does that seem high??

I am a 1 man band but a LTD company and my accountant has just charged me £900 + VAT and I am not VAT registered anymore, so it sounds like you have got off lightly. 😥
They were charging me £1800 at one time until I threw my toys out of the pram. I even started looking around for cheaper but it seems if you are LTD they stuff you good and proper.

The problem with being a limited company is that there are 2 sets of accounts to do and most accountants go on annual turn over. I have just gone back to sole trader because it seemed like i was always paying PAYE, Vat and accountancy charges.

I’ve been ringing around today for quotes.

Even though I tell them, there is only 2 inputs per week, 10 max per month due to the exclusive product. They still want to see the books etc before quoting, so ill have to hall them around the town 2 or 3 times before finding someone we want. That’ll take a month…….

For our main business Im learning sage now, instead of using quick books type system, so surely that should save them time..

Just as Kevin says, it seems our prices are being forced down, but other trades are rocketing, should have paid more attention at school lol

Why are you learning sage Denise? I’ve always used quickbooks & it doesn’t seem to bother the accountant at all.
As kevin says one of the disadvantages of being a LTD company is the cost of accountants because more is required. Think it also has to be a charted accountant but could be wrong about that as it was years ago I was LTD.

Denise, you should not need to learn a new accounts package any accountant firm that cant use quickbooks should be avoided its like me sending you an eps or ai you have to deal with it, so your accountant should be able to do the same for different accounts packages, that small business you have with 10 sales a month 250£ a year should be loads 🙂

    Hi

In all fairness I wasn`t told to use sage, we opted for it, as a way of keeping track of our customers, what they had last time etc. creating a data base. easy emailing of the invoices. I suspect there is an easyier way, we just aren`t very savy with other computer programs TBH.

In all honesty i wish i didn`t have it, as it seems I do most of the work for the accountant and their bills keep rising.

The small ltd company we have now de reg`d for VAT as we dropped below the threshold, so that will get easyier and hopefully the bills get less.

The main company is on the sage system. Their accounts are due in very soon ( we`ve only had sage for 8 months)

I can just see the accountants bill being as high, when I`ve done alot of work via sage, I feel it should be reducing.

We were advised to go LTD as a way to rduce the tax bill. As stated the accountant has to be registered to do LTD companies..

Not sure of the exact amount but we pay circa £600 + VAT per year (paid by direct debit monthly).

We are a LTD company with a turnover of approx £200k per year, and they do all but the VAT returns which I do.

    We use http://www.aims.co.uk

They are a franchise business so not sure whether they have fixed rates or if each franchisee sets his own but at the kind of prices being punted on here I would say worth a call.

    Cheers
