  • Accessing web based email accounts (Hotmail) with OE.

Posted by John Gregson on April 22, 2008 at 11:09 am

    Hi All,
Received an email from Microsoft Outlook Express Team saying that from 30th June hotmail and any other web based email accounts will not be accessable through Outlook Express. Their recommendation is to download Windows Live Mail which is capable of using web based email.

    A few questions:

1: Does anybody here use windows live mail and is it intended to be a replacement for OE.

2: When downloading the software does it overwrite OE and remember all logins and passwords.

3: Am I the only person to receive this email or am I a dinosaur for still using OE

    Cheers John

yes Nick – thats it. When I first set up my business I used a couple of freeuk accounts to set up my website and email as it was free. I still host a website with them for nowt but suffer from a lot of spam due to the email links so set up a hotmail account for customers to send/receive artwork and quotes. I now have a dedicated .co.uk domain so through outlook i’m checking 8 email accounts with 4 of them being web based.

Well according to this email this morning Outlook Express are turning off the process known as DAV which allows accessing web based email through OE. Still not sure of where I stand – will leave everything as it is and bury my head in the sand – its bound to work out ok :lol1:

I wonder how this affect the BT Openworld accounts as they teamed up with Yahoo (without asking customers) to make their email accounts web based.

Ill not be best pleased if I cant use OE on my BT account, another nail in the coffin for the former giants.
