    I know there are several similar type systems in place, one being PayPal Here.
    But came across another one a few days ago and thought i would post it here in the off chance others may benefit.

    I am sure there will be Pro’s & Con’s over each device in question but i have to say its good to see that maybe in the not to distant future we will see cost effective alternative ways to getting paid by our customers.

    using iZettle as an example.

    * £20 for the plugin reader
    * No contract
    * No on going fees
    * Just a transaction percentage as and when needed.

    Having a device like this will allow us to take a Deposit on-site with our customers.
    ON-Site on completion of work, It allows us to take payment in various ways, cheque, credit & debit Card, Paypal or cash… this making it more difficult for dubious customers to warm their way out of their agreed payment arrangement.

    I would also imagine that because more of these device/companies are appearing now that the next competitive move to make by them is to drop the transaction percentage fee.

    worth a look anyway, would like to hear your thoughts on it too.

    so according to the advert, they ‘sign’? or do the enter a pin too?

    if they sign, it’s an issue with bent cards,
    with a pin, how long before some smart-ar5e works out how to record it?

    I think it’s fair to say I’m not sold on it!

    via the FSB I can get a truly mobile termial with a roaming sim (4 main networks), great replacement cover etc for about £22 + vat a month, ok, it’s a 36month contract but… might be a better option for a proper business, I would view this more as a non-professional option and would be sceptical if asked to put my card into someones phone attachment!!

    Hugh, I understand your concern mate… but…

    You make a purchase online. "an amazing random deal"
    they ask for payment and you go through the process.
    the order is never delivered and your money is never debited.
    end of story… but they now have your details! to use a month or several months from now elsewhere on the net.

    you call your local sign supplier about a product.
    they confirm they have it and proceed to ask your card details.
    they jott the details down, process the order, debit your card and the order arrives next day as promised. everything above board… but…
    logit company, but The employee jotting down your details now has your card info!

    i have a streamline terminal too Hugh, but the same applies with you and your terminal.
    it is only as secure as the person holding the device or taking the info.
    if you see what i mean?

    yeah that’s true Rob,

    I tend to never write details down, only ever punching them direct into the machine – that way I have no record of the security code. I do get a bit miffed when customers just email be details with orders… little wonder some people get robbed!

    yep, my card was stopped by the fraud squad a few weeks back. caused me no end of bother as i have lots of different online accounts use my card.
    sorted now, but when speaking with the fraud squad they gave all sorts of scenarios of how someone can get my details even though ive never used an ATM or in a shop over the counter.
    in end i hadnt lost anything from my card, but my card was a batch of around 500 cards an employee had access to and that has been done with fraud had obtained the card details. so as a precaution, every card was locked.

    as for your question Hugh, I think you sign and type in your pin.
    to be honest the sign part is a bit Iffy, i mean, i sign digital screens for carrier companies all the time and i dont even recognise my own signature on those things never mind doing it with my finger. :lol1:

    as you said though, you have a mobile streamline machine, i do too… this is just the same but more convenient and cost effective. but i do see your cause for concern.

    I looked at this as an alternative to streamline as I don’t take loads of card payments,
    They don’t do PIN numbers as yet, you only get a percentage of the payment within 4 days and the rest within 15 days and the maximum per card on visa is £500,
    It’s around 2.75% per transaction which I suppose isn’t that bad as there’s no monthly

    thanks for the feedback robert…
    is the delayed payment scenario not something Paypal do also, and i mean with general payments online rather than their iPhone app? i dont use paypal often which is why i ask.

    the percentage really isnt that bad considering i was told that companies like visa and the like intend increasing the percentage for those dealing allot online due to fraud.
    as i said though, i receon it will level out due to competition.

    the visa minimum payment of £500 is off putting though.

    If you have a verified bank account with Paypall it’s pretty instant , the iZettle thing does look good for people on the move and if you stick an email add in at time of purchase it will email the customer a receipt. Also you don’t need the reader you can just download the app and type in the card numbers

    We’ve signed up to a trial through a deal with the FSB’s
    It’s a free proper terminal with an app for a smartphone which links with the terminal via blutooth, so you can take it anywhere, with a phone signal of course :lol1:

    It’s run by Worldpay. 65p per debit or 3.3% per c/card.

    Seems to work fine, receipt thru the phone via text or e-mail or there’s a pad for written receipts.

    OK so I buy a coffee from the street vendor. He uses izettle and hands me his phone so I can put my card in etc. Instead of doing that I just split with his phone. He chases me for a block or two and while he’s doing that my partners in crime raid his coffee stand, taking all his cash, his Helly Hansen coat, and his little solar powered radio.

    Love it.

    You can take the boy outta the gutter but you can’t take the gutter outta the boy. 😮

    I have just joined "JUDO" (honest) you show the customer a credit card with your pin on it and THEY use their phone, simple instructions from the operator like "how much do you want to deposit" etc etc. I receive a text message to tell me payment has been made and so do they. I dont see their card details and have no need to chase after them for my phone back :P. Im not advertising the facility but on the odd occasion that Ive needed to take a payment away from the unit – this is cheap and simple.

    Just ordered the iZettle Chip&Pin machine, will give feedback once its arrived.

    As has been mentioned, these emerging technologies can be abused, and its up to legit businesses to use them sensibly and build customer trust in what will become standard payment options. The added bonus is the instant receipt via SMS….

    My advice would be check out how well you are covered for charge backs and claims made against you when using this device.

    Any feed back would be nice.
