I charged my two van batteries up overnight as I have problems starting in cold weather, so with this cold weather I took the precaution to be prepared for what I think has been our coldest night. Hooked both batteries up to the van this morning and……..nada, nix, nuttin, the darn thing wouldn’t start. Oh well I thinks, the missus is off work so I will nick her car…………..Aaaaaaaarghh! That won’t start either (hot) (hot) (hot)
    Today I shall be mostly……drinking coffee! 🙄

    Transit 0, Cold 1
    Renault 1, Cold 0

But it cost a 20 minute jump start to get it breathing again, and a new battery now. That’s my beer money for the month gone! Harrumph!

In work now cuddling my heater 😕

Same for me Monday morning with the van,
Had to use the car, which I’m pleased to say did start.

Battery has been charged but sense the it’s on its last legs.
Can’t believe the price of them now 😮

If it makes you guys feel any better, it is so damned humid here, I’m working up a sweat just thinking about work 🙁

    Don’t rub it in Shane.

My van wouldn’t start Thursday morning, my good lady had just left so I had to get my little MX5 out the garage (I’m sure it shivered when it came out the door) but it managed to jump start the Transit.
I put the battery on charge overnight and Friday morning it still struggled but luckily did start.
So, a new battery is on the cards this weekend.
Thankfully I’m not in Australia where it’s obviously uncomfortably hot 😕

Something a lot of people forget to do when starting a diesel engine is to allow the glow plugs to heat up before turning the starter motor. you shoul always wait for the glow plug light to go out before attempting to start. Not only do the glow plugs help with the initial combustion, they also drain a lot of power from the battery which can make the starter motor turn very slowly. once the glow plugs have finished heating up, there is then more power available for the starter motor to do it’s job.

That’s where I’m going wrong :banghead: I wondered what the little orange light was for, cheers Phill 😉

new battery on the car on thursday, stopped by a customers, only there for twenty mins or so and when i came out the central locking would not work, thought i had let my lights on, but no just one poorly battery, managed to get a jump start from a passer by and straight to the local garage, £55.00 later and one shiny new battery, should be good for electric for a bit now!

My new diesel Vito doesn’t have one either although if it is really cold a light on the speedo come on, and you have to wait for it to go out before you turn the key.

If it was your battery at fault Paul, if you had already put a new battery in maybe the problem wasn’t actually the battery but a direct short which was draining the battery, still couple of days time if it happens again you will know why :lol1: :lol1:
