A thought for John Childs (JC) 7 years on
Incredibly its been 7 years since John passed away.
After reading through some posts lately on costings etc, he would have been in his element offering advice.
Also a massive Apple fan…. he would have had his iphone 7 on his desk beside his Mac :smiles:
I know many members will not have known him and had the pleasure of reading his posts but for those who did please raise a glass to a great man who is still dearly missed.

Cannot believe it is seven years!!!
John was a great guy and a very good business man too.
Was well liked on UKSB as well as good friend to many of us off the site too.
Lost count how many times i have sat till the early hours getting drunk with John in the Hotels at Sign and Digital NEC each year talking about anything and everything. Last time was in Hilton and John and Chris Dowd sneaked off leaving me sleeping in the bar around 5am only for me to be woke by the cleaners hoovering under my feet some time later! :smiles:a sad loss indeed…

It’s strange how you can have so much respect for a person that you’ve never actually met but Johns character was evident in his written word
He not only offered advice…he offered GOOD advice

There’s just some folk you’ll never forget simply because they were terrific guys
John was top of the list :thumbsup: -
like they say "gone but never forgotten" I think he would be proud of the legacy he left

It doesn’t seem possible that 7 years have passed. I’ll be raising a glass to John. Sadly missed.

7years? Can’t be. I thought of him just last week when I picked up a fag end of a roll of specialist reflective film he sold to me, I don’t use it any more as it’s discontinued but have always kept this little bit as his Corby number was written on the back!
I met him a couple of times but spoke to him on the phone many a time.. he gave me a lot of advice and even introduced me to a material that would make my best selling product!
A true gent and sadly missed.. will definitely raise a glass tonight [emoji485]

Unlike many I only spoke and met John a couple of times but I do remember that I valued his opinions and views on the subjects he contributed to on here. On the occasions when there was a bit of acrimony I used to eagerly await John’s sensible input and I miss that.

Peter in real life is so different to how he used to often come across on the boards. A real lovely guy always willing to help you.

Time moves on, we get a little older and new faces come and go but I suspect our respect for John (and his posts that occasionally surface) has remained throughout the years that have passed by. Proper gent.
Brings to mind what felt like "the good old days" and a vibrant community…missing many faces.

UKSB started at the tail end of the year 2000, we are now in 2017, I meet many of the old faces at Sign & Digital, whilst I still keep in touch with many others via sign related work or facebook. They still visit UKSB regularly though their time spent posting is obviously not the same. Since Signapp was launched, i have actually seen some re-appear. However, surprisingly some that do not are actually no longer in the sign industry at all. Some left, some gone bust, some retired…

Not to mention a few fakes that have appeared over the years (and probably one or two that are current). My favourite was a guy called Oreo who was supposedly a Native American who "spoke"(typed) with an accent a little like little plum from the Beano. I recall realising he wasn’t for real one night when there were a flurry of posts going and his accent gradually vanished until he was as coherent as the rest of us 😆 😆
At least I think that’s what happened- maybe I dream’t it :awkward:
