  • A simple, user-friendly, stand-alone software package?

    Hello everyone,

I’m trying to get a simple vinyl cutting system up and running and am looking for software recommendations.

I have an old Roland PNC-1100 running from an oldish PC with XP (for it’s printer port). I’m pretty sure it’s all working but I’m having a couple of issues 🙄 .

Signmaking isn’t my line and I’m afraid I have little experience of programs like CorelDraw. I’ve tried using a program named ‘SignGo’,which is on a downloaded free trial but isn’t very easy to use. I’m only looking to cut very basic lettering for my cricket scoreboard builds, so don’t really need anything special – simplicity is far preferable.

I’ve just had a quick look at SignCut x2 on the internetty and it looks far easier to use. Can anyone confirm this?

If I’m honest, all I need to do is create scaleable text in a very common font. If all I need to do is click ‘cut’, without any converting to curves or what have you, I’m sold. I realise I may be asking for the moon on a stick but it’s worth a go :lol1: .

Also, it would be nice if a recommendation was available in a free trial. I’m not being tight as I intend to buy but would like to give it a whirl first.

    Kind regards,
    Andy…..

Ive used Corel for years, and its just a case of getting used to the functionality of the program, problem comes when you are used to something, you just dont want to learn something new.

Go to the corel website or Misco.co.uk as Im sure both have free full functionality trials. I bought my full licensed copy from e-costsoftware as it still the cheapest full version I have found (even with Corels nice £90 cash back)

    Hello Andy
Roland have a program called Cut Studio, which is bundled with a new cutter, or a free download I think 🙂 .
May be worth contacting Roland and asking. Be fine for what you want to do 🙂

    Thanks for the replies.

I’ve had a bit more success with SignGo and a bit of persistence has paid off. I’ve also looked a bit more deeply into their website/forum and I like what I see. It looks like they are a helpful bunch so perhaps I should support them with my custom.

I have now managed to succesfully cut some vinyl (don’t laugh) so at least I know the setup works. Now it’s just a case of tweaking the settings and getting used to the software. Perhaps this is all I really need for now.

I think that in the long-term, I might look at buying CorelDraw as it’s probably a good string for the bow 😉 .

(I’m not sure how this thread became an announcement. If I did it, sorry, it was accidental. If someone else did it, thank you.)

Thanks again for the advice, I’m off to play with my new ‘toy’ :lol1: .

    Regards,
    Andy…..
