A Bit Advice Needed
Posted by Paul Humble on November 24, 2009 at 5:47 pmA random car has just appeared blocking my shutter, I never seen who put it there and no one knows who it belongs to. I cant put my van away and if its still there in the morning I cant get a full day job in either.
Where do I stand if I drag it out of the way with my van, or is there another alternative?

ring the police in case its been nicked. is it locked
if it has no right to be there by law then i think you can move it but you will be responsible for damage etc.
stick a few nails behind the tyre for your inconvenience.

Doesnt show any signs of being stolen, but I dont have much choice other than to drag it out of the way if its there in the morning and im starting at 8 so it looks like it will be,

Definitely let the cops handle this.
All’s you need is the owner showing up after you moved it and claiming damage, then THEM calling the po-po.

That’s infuriating. It used to happen to me all the time at my last place. One time the owner parked it there and left the keys in the ignition while he went into another unit. I got into the car and drove it away and parked it somewhere else.
Another time when a car was left I managed to find out who the owner was (by speaking to the garage opposite). They gave me his number and I phoned him but he explained that he had actually sold the car and didn’t know the new owners telephone number.
That’s a shame (I replied) because I’m about to get it towed away by the police (I was bluffing – but he didn’t know that). 20 mins later the car was gone.Doesn’t help you Paul I know – I just want you to know I’m here for you in spirit ๐

Although tempting, putting nails in tires etc is bad news if they get blow out and crash and involving other inocent people. Chalk pen across the window. no damage but gets the message across.

All sorted now, I was just fastening the tow rope when the owner ran over from the Taxi company outside the compound.

If it happens again, get an off cut of composite, flood it yellow and form into a triangle, then chain it to a wheel…………… :lol1:
If as before they were close bye, they will be back in a flash

I’d drag it out of the way without a second thought.
They can squeal damage all they like, but they would have to prove that it was me that moved it, ‘cos I’d deny all knowledge.
Sod ’em. ๐

Cut a piece of vinyl about 2ft x 3ft and cross cut it in the plotter with about 1000 diamond shapes. App tape and apply to drivers side of windshield. Lots for them to think about when removing the stuff.

I have a tyre place opposite me so I made an aluminium A sign with a polite message for people not to park on the neighboring business forecourts. This worked for a while until I forgot to bring the sign in one night and some kind sole decided to re-cycle it! ๐ฟ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ
This led me to make up the words "NO PARKING HERE" to fit on the windscreen of the offending vehicle. The twist is like Peter said, I have cut horizontal and vertical lines running through ALL the lettering, so it will only take a few seconds to stick it on the windscreen but the perpetrator will take a wee while longer getting it off his screen. I haven’t yet had the guts to do this as I will probably get landed with a bunch of fives! ๐ณ ๐ ๐ฎ

Van got blocked in by a car parked behind it when i lived in a cul de sac, phoned the police did’t want to know even though the car was just in the middle of he road. Lost me rag jumped in the van put it in reverse & bumped the car out the way just as a police car pulled up. Didn’t say a thing to me just tracked down the owner to being the local drunk & thug down the road then sodded off because he wouldn’t open the door to them. I wasn’t to worried my van was 10 years old his car was less than a year. Every time i drove pass the car his front bumper never did look right and he probably thought he had dinged his car driving home pissed.

I was sent this by a friend, doesnt apply to me as its a private compound but it may help others:
