    Hi,

They are coming thick and fast at the moment.

Have a job for a client who will probably go with a tray rather than a trim but issue is the drain pipe.

Tray would be 50mm return maybe 100mm at the most. Easy enough to batten and bring it out to go over the drain pipe but how would you finish off the wood. Paint it, composite sheet?

Just concerned at a great looking tray not going flush to the wall but then having a painted or different surface. The tray is going to be black.

    Any thoughts would be great.

    Cheers

    Johnny

why batton out, why not make the return deep enough to cover the pipe and just cut the shape of the pipe out off the return and fit tight to the wall??

Have to agree, Ian’s way is the nicest. Unless for some reason you can’t do that, it’s by far the answer.

Another option is weld up some stand off brackets, then it looks like the sign is floating, if you can’t do that yourself it’ll start getting expensive though.

    Bob

Your option is more expensive in labour whether he does it or contractors do it! If I was doing a fitting job or my contractors, the price to the customer would be the same. Fact is try not to install signs, too time consuming, i would rather sell the next project than be fitting the last one.

Just build a tray with cut out enough so the sign is flat over the length job done.

    Happy Friday

It was only an option if it for some reason couldn’t be done the way Ian said, like if it were a stench pipe as oppose to a drain pipe etc. certainly not another option to an easily resolve initial problem.

I would charge out at the same price as a contractor too, it’s just if I make them I get to keep all the money, and welding and building stuff is my hobby 😎

I generally recommend a friend of mine to do the fitting, the customer pays him, and it frees me up in the process, everyone’s happy.
