has any one had problems with vinyl sticking to the semi rigid plastic 4×4 wheel covers, had 1 in today which had a old garage name/phone number printed on, just did a black circle with some mitsubishi logo on it and would it stick ! hell no, 1st go was on mactac 8300pro wet, didnt even attemp to stick when removing app paper, so recut and tried dry lol still the same, so recut using oracal 751c exactly the same so i gave up,
its been cleaned with degreaser and looks well clean but nothing seems to stick, if it was mine i would use scotch pad on it but dont fancy the idea of it still not sticking and me having to replace the wheel cover.
only thing different to others i have done is it had some old printed gfx on it but this wont come off without using scotch pad etc.

    Hi Alan

This is an old thread I believe…

I put in the other thread thus…

I’ve had the same, wheel cover, semi rigid, on my Land Rover for over years now. Simple black circle 9800 with silver 9800 on top. Dry applied and heated (and heated, and heated) until the ‘plastic pattern) shows through. It takes a bit of time, heat gently while squeegeeing until you feel the vinyl adhere.

Hope this is of some use…

Try some LG ultragrip, sticks like the proverbial. Or some Avery Apolar.

    same as Matty Alan,

i’ve done quite a few life rings on charter boats etc, i usually use 751 oracle but have used 651 in the past, clean it to death and then heat it and press into the textured surface with a soft squeegee, on smooth surfaces i still give it loads of heat, it will stick eventually! i don’t recall any problems mind, maybe the first life ring but i soon learnt!

Matt, yes very expensive, so I usually use mactac 9800, avery 700 or 3M 40, but if the customer is prepared to pay…
