    Hi,
    Not sure where to begin.
Recently I did a favor/job for someone I know. Wrapping VW transporter in 4D Carbon vinyl.
The problem is that vinyl does not sit, lots of bubbles in recesses.
So I am trying to figure out what went wrong. Was it my fault or not.
It not my first or second time doing a job like this and never had problems like that.

I blame vinyl and the conditions.
    1. I told customer to buy 3M or Avery wrapping vinyl cause thats what I work with and trust, he still bought some cheap teckwrap carbon. And I think that was on the shelf for far too long. Cause glossy top layer was pealing off (I am not talking about the protective plastic). If for example I was wrapping panel next to one that was done and place some one on top and then lift again, very often it would take clear coating with. So all the coating had to be removed, worst job, glad it wasnt me who did that.
    2. Way too cold, had to work with my jacked and gloves. Prolly round 0 celsius. And I did tell him that I need warm place. Though I should blame may self here to agreeing to work in such conditions.

From what I’ve seen if teckwrap films they’re pretty good but some the films do have limitations with regards to memory, type of use, low energy surface, type of heat etc, pretty sure they’d recommend fitting in at least 18•c, vehicle body just too cold!

I’m no expert, not even close but wouldn’t even try below 12•c , even then the vehicle should have been in that environment long enough to warm up some.

I rarely agree to fit customer supplied material & I certainly wouldn’t give a warranty with it.
There are a thousand ways for wraps to fail so I always give myself a fighting chance. Firstly, vehicle comes to us clean & we clean again to be sure. We don’t fit on the same day if it’s cold outside, it stays inside to warm up. The usual post heating & rolling the recesses & strictly not going back outside for at least 24 hours after we’ve finished. If they don’t like those terms, I won’t touch it, wrapping is a dark art to do right & the fitter always gets the blame regardless. Don’t feel too bad as it happens to us all, but if it was a favour for a mate, he should have got you to supply as well. It may well have been a decent brand but how old was it?
Was it a dodgy batch that was returned? We know of a guy that took rejected vinyl away from one supplier & offers it for sale.

I think it’s most likely the low temperature. I get anyone who insists on poor conditions to sign a disclaimer voiding any warranty. Once you warn them and tell it needs signing most change their mind on poor conditions. I wouldn’t do any wrapping in a none environment controlled area eg heated garage is minimum for wrapping imo
