40 foot printed lorry graphics
Posted by Pryam Carter on February 7, 2004 at 3:41 pmThis is my first attempt at anything of this size. I ventured into printing with the purhase of a Versacamm SP300 in Dec, my laminator turned up two days before this work began so my experience levels are low.
I posted on this site and asked for help a couple of weeks ago, thankyou to all who responded. Your comments made me feel a little more at ease with the job.
It all went smoothly and l can’t wait for the next one to come along!! Well my bank manager can’t anyway. ๐ ๐
The designs were supplied, all l had to do was print, laminate and fit.Pryam Carter replied 20 years, 2 months ago 12 Members · 22 Replies -

That looks great, if you don’t mind me asking, what did you charge for that job and what was the square meterage in the job (both sides) ?
Good work and a pleasure to look at.
-
What sort of size did you produce the original image at?
-
Nice work! Especially like the silohettes along the bottom of the graphics, nice touch ๐ Love to have a pop at something on that scale, must take some brass cohoonies in this weather! ๐ฎ
Cheers, Dewi

Hi Billy, what can I say mate. You must be well chuffed with this one..
The fact you cant notice the joins, โall the betterโ job well done.
The good thing about doing a trailer of this size means. โYou cant really get much biggerโ in this country. Soooโฆ you managed fine on this.. So no wonder you want to get your teeth into the next.
Iโm glad you are making plenty off this job, gives you a good idea what you should be looking for in future.Well done mate.. your versa-camm has done you proud.. ๐

Absolutely brilliant Billy, I think I would have lost a few pounds just thinking about that job, you have carried it out superbly, well done.
Keep it up
Dave

Nooooooo!!!!! Skeggy armpit of Lincolnshire, bloody freezin now but in a couple of months it’ll be full of Yorkshire’s equivalent of Wayne & Waynetta Slobb, nice job though Bill.
-
How dare you say the armpit of Lincolnshire Steve!!!!! This is a classy town. ๐
Actually Rob l didn’t make as much as l should have done. I’m trying to get in with the firm so l gave them my very best price in the hope of getting all of there sign works.
We’ll see if they have any more work done, l know the BOSS man was very impressed with it so you never know.
The silhouettes are cliparts blacked out, l got them out of Corel 11. The design brief for this side was to copy a rather cluttered looking brochure promoting the seasons acts and the silhouettes were at the bottom so l can’t claim the glory on them Dewi. They do finish the job off on that side though.
The design on the other side was supplied. -
Well come on then where are ya, you never know I might come and drink your coffee one day.

Nice (and big) work! It seems to me the versa camm is capable machine.
What image sizes have you printed for this work? (?) -
Not sure what you are refering to when you say image sizes Image?
Do you mean the pictures of the “A list celebs”, “The STARS”? -
Just realised you’re from Boston Steve, and you called Skeggy the armpit of Lincolnshire!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m just down the road from Lidl on Richmond Drive, next to the Plumb Center. We don’t drink Coffee, sorry!! -

How many pictures did you print with the VersaCamm to cover the whole surface of the side of the truck? What was the size of these pictures?”
Thanks!
-
Well Done Billy
Ther’s quite a few questions on this post Billy
There the sort of questions I’m interested in as well
So when you get a mo!…………. ๐ ๐
Skegness used to be my local resort when I was in youngster Hull along with another small seaside resort called Withernsea
Good to see some Versacamm stuff as well

Some of the questions answered for you now l have a minute or two.
The lorry had been painted especially for the job as it was pretty rough when l went to see about the job, both sides needed rubbing down and painting so the prints would sit flat on the surface.
The size of each side is 12.95metres x 2.34metres. Thats about 30m2 each side. 19 vertical strips for my little Versacamm to print and for us to hang and align. It has done me proud. ๐ We took our time and were in no rush to finish as this was my first attempt like l have already said, two days later the three of us had done.
I used Hexis truck vinyl which is there top end along with a 5-7 year laminate film. I’m getting great prints from my Versacamm with this product by the way.
I wasn’t sure what size to produce the artwork at but l went for about 35 – 40 % of the finished size. This wasn’t a problem for the text and graphics and most of the pics, some of the lesser quality images that l was sent to work with did suffer though.
As for the joins, l know!! What a result. ๐ ๐
Hope l’ve answered all questions here. -
Thanks Billy ๐
interesting stuff! ๐
All this work and you still manage to play midfield for Man United – Amazing! ๐

He DOES look like Roy Keane. I thought it was just me.
Strangely enough, a bloke came to see me today about a van livery who was the image of Keanu Reeves. Spookily alike…..
Anyway, a smart job well executed.

hi folks.. just in the door an hour or so.. boy am i knackered… been on the road last three days. ๐ฎ
john, my last job today was in Hull.. ๐ฎ ๐
billy on my travels i continualy spotted the new sainsbury trucks (orange digi prints of peaches etc) all over the place. the reason these trucks stuck in my mind was because the entire truck, “digital printed” was done in sections about 30-36 inches wide by the drop depth.. just like yours.
after noticing this in a traffic jam i kept an eye out for more.. i must have seen 6, all the exact same and in different areas of the country.if its good enough for sainsbury its good enough for most ๐
