  • 3m x 2m Banner problem, can you help?

Hi There everyone hope you all had a great Christmas!

Looking for some advice on a banner 3m x 2m which was installed 40ft up in an open area.

The problem is we have had 90 MPH winds and the banner has blown down!

The banner was not heavy duty material just standard banner material with hems and was fixed with quality self tapping cladding screws with large heads.

If I am at fault I have no problem re – funding the customer but at what point do I no longer accept responsibility due to weather conditions?

    Regards Daniel

    Hi

Was it screwed to a flat wall or with no backing building/structure behind it?

Hi all, thanks for your replies the banner was fixed to cladding?

Does any one offer weather insurance of any kind or a guarantee when fitting large banners?

    Regards

I doubt that you will be able to get insurance for fitting banners, the variables are to great.

What do your Terms & Conditions say?

It’s worth getting the terms and conditions in order and send those with every quote (speaking with our solicitor who sorted these for us, it’s too late printing them on the back of the invoice! The customer needs to be aware prior to committing to buy)

I think "Act of god" and "abnormal working conditions" will appear somewhere!

The main question is what failed the fabric of the banner or the fixings into the cladding. If its the fabric then there is nothing you can do it is not designed to with stand 90mph winds. If you used tech bolts in to cladding and only cladding then its a fitting fault. Tech bolts are designed to hold cladding on to a thicker structure and have very little fastening grip if used just in to cladding. Some cladding is as thin as .5mm and even the thickest is under 1mm. I am sure some people will swear by tech bolts into cladding but they where never designed for fastening stuff to cladding. If you are fitting something into cladding and are worried about winds etc use rivets or a combination of rivets and tech bolts
