• 3m di-noc Carbon

Well I used some of this for the first time today – thought I’d give it a go rather than use my usual APA or Hexis carbon wrap.

And after a very frustrating few hours I think I will stick with the APA and Hexis.

the 3M seemed to harden really quickly whilst heating and stretching and is not as pliable as the APA or the Hexis.

Just my opinions though so please don’t flame me 🙄

No I agree. My self and a fellow colleague of mine also had the same issues and informed 3m as it’s never been a problem before.

It is thick, but goes very soft when heated. I think it is better for roofs and bonnets as the weave stays straighter but it’s tricky to do small stuff with.

The apa is nice to work with but it is prone to popping out of recessed areas. Most people prefer the pattern of the 3M aswell.

i do favor the look of the 3M stuff but haven’t really had a proper play with it to given any sort of real comment on how it handles.

one thing i will say though is… i have seen a mobile phone wrapped in it and it had melted into the shape of the fone and even the little ripples of the hand-set etc very nicely. now that’s small! maybe a bad batch guys? as i said, ive no real experience of it but i was impressed by the phone.

ive had mixed feelings with the stuff. some times it seems to stretch very well, other times it wont stretch very well, and this is off the same roll, seems to be a fine tolerence with it. But if you do over stretch it even a small amount, then be prepared for it to shrink back over the following days!

believe me I have the patience of a saint with some of the work I have to do all whilst customers are watching !!!

Just didn’t like the feel of the 3M material compared to that of APA or Hexis.

has anyone tried the oracle cb?
I have a sample, more expensive than 3m, but thinner, but not as easily marked as the apa.

    opinions welcome

a friend of mine in sweden uses the orafol carbon, he says its glossier, come in 1500mm wide (which of course Di-noc doesnt) and says its slightly easier to mould and use than the 3M

you can see pro Skier Jon Olssons Lambo halfway down the page with the orange accents, they did this car in the Orafol stuff.
