1.5 inch thick small lettering required
Posted by Warren Beard on August 23, 2010 at 5:30 pmHI All
Got an enquiry to make up some office meeting room names (so to fit on a door) and they want them about 1.5" thick.
Any idea what these could be made of so I know what to ask for when requesting quotes.
Would 2 layers of 19mm foamex stuck together and then painted look any good?
cheers

look fine if prepared right. needs to be pvc glued and filled on the returns but can be done to a nice standard. problem is size of the letters.?

Why on earth do they want them that thick??? they would look stupid!
Are you sure the customer was not referring to the width of the letter rather than the depth in their ignorance of not giving a height, if you know what I mean.
I often have people asking for X long by y wide rather than X wide by y deep! 😕 -
it’s for a design agency office ……
….. need I say more :lol1:

How big are the letters going to be Warren ? ( Cap height )
You can get 40mm acrylic/perspex (mega expensive) I have cut some on our cnc and it machines really well, but I think the sizes you require you’d want someone with a nice powerful laser !An alternative is chenniwood ( a hard machinable material used for model making and mold making ) or Foam. . both of these will require finishing which will take an age to get right !
Aluminium cut on a CNC waterjet would look the best straight off the machine and require no finishing whatsoever, provided they wanted a silver metallic finish 🙂
P.s I hope they’ve got a nice fat budget !

Thanks guys, I think I have managed to convince them to go with 19mm foamboard so hopefully they agree with me.
